Research Towards Discipline Integration in Library and Information Science (LIS): On the Status of Discipline Development
Lou Wen[ Department of Information Management, Faculty of Economics and Management, East China Normal University, Key Laboratory of Advanced Theory and Application in Statistics and Data Science (East China Normal University), Ministry of Education of China]
Libraly Journal. 2023, 42 (385): 20-32.
The topics concerning the fundamental theory, methodology, research methods, and techniques have gained much attention among LIS communities globally. It is effective to visualize science evolution through a deep understanding of theoretical research and the history of the research field. Our purpose is to clarify the philosophy of LIS, to define the location of LIS in the science society, and to recognize the fundamental theory of LIS. We proposed a concept of “Research Towards Discipline Integration” from the perspective of the science of science, and introduced the mechanism of this concept and its relative status in the transforming process of a discipline. In this way, we concluded:
(1) Discipline development generally intermixes knowledge divergence and convergence. The balance of knowledge status and driving force has produced five development statuses of research patterns, namely specialization, reconstruction, transformation, differentiation, and integration. (2) LIS research shows the diversity in the development of theories and methods corresponding to these five types. LIS communities have insisted on the foundation of being a branch of social science and serving society. LIS has been built within the vision with a systematic and holistic view. (3) Practically, what should be done is the consistency of the belief in the driving force for scientific research. LIS communities could embrace the diverse challenges from the science society by making use of theoretical and methodological foundations based on the idea of “from the integration to the integration”.

Fu Shaoxiong, Chen Xiaoyu, Zheng Han, Xia Sudi ( College of Information Management, Nanjing Agricultural University, School of Cultural Heritage and Information Management, Shanghai University, Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, Nanyang Technological University, School of Information Management, Wuhan University)
Libraly Journal. 2023, 42 (385): 33-43.
it, this paper systematically reviewed research on misinformation from three aspects: causes, negative impacts, and control. First, from the perspectives of users and machines, this paper reviewed research on the generation of misinformation. Meanwhile, studies of misinformation dissemination from the perspectives of information sources, susceptible hosts, and information environment were analyzed. Second, the paper summarized research on the negative impacts of misinformation from the development of user cognitive distortion, decision-making based on misinformation, and user behavior changes. Last, the paper examined research on misinformation control from the perspectives of information platforms and users. The paper concluded that the existing research still has limitations in the research context, research perspectives, methods, and data. Therefore, the paper suggested that future research may segment study subjects further, analyze the impacts of technology, and explore more data collection and analysis methods.

A Review of Research on Quality Evaluation of the Supporting Activities of Literature Information Resource in China
Lu Wenhui (School of Information Management, Nanjing University)
Libraly Journal. 2023, 42 (385): 44-54.
To promote the high-quality development of literature information resource supporting activities, it is necessary to strengthen the quality evaluation of literature information resource supporting activities. The study found that the relevant research in China had fully discussed the relevant concepts and the evaluation indicator system through systematic analysis of the relevant research. However, there are still some obvious problems. For example, the important concept is not clearly defined, the analysis of the evaluation system is insufficient, and the empirical studies are not enough. The study suggests that the follow-up research should further clarify the concepts related to the evaluation, improve the evaluation theories and methods, comprehensively analyze the evaluation system, and establish an evaluation indicator system that covers the various elements and the whole process. Furthermore, the follow-up research should strengthen the investigation of evaluation practice, emphasize the empirical research of evaluation, and appropriately expand the object of evaluation.

Investigation and Analysis of Special Collections of 100 Famous University Libraries in the World
Zhang Yi, Chen Dan (East China Normal University Library)
Libraly Journal. 2023, 42 (385): 71-81.
Considering that digital resources are mainly purchased, seriously homogeneous and expensive, the development of digital special collection brings opportunities to libraries. Although many digital special collections have been built in large-scale digital projects such as CADAL and CALIS by domestic university libraries, it is still necessary to continuously explore the use of special collection to support teaching, scientific research and cultural inheritance, to break the information isolated island, and to release its great value. This study investigates and analyzes the libraries of 100 well-known universities in the world from the aspects of basic information of digital special collection platform, library homepage entrance, disclosure mode, openness, resource types and their Chinese resources. It constructs a generalized linear prediction model between special collection resources and library homepage flows, and explores the construction status and future development direction of special collections in university libraries, providing reference for the construction of special collections in Chinese university libraries.

Zhang Li (Library of Beijing Language and Culture University) Lu Ya (Pudong Library)
Libraly Journal. 2023, 42 (385): 82-88.
This paper explores the innovation of summer reading program of public library by taking the holiday reading activity of Pudong Library “The Bluebird Bookcrossing Summer Reading Program” as an example. The successful creation of the reading brand, the correct cognition of the reading object and the accurate positioning of the reading goal are the three innovations of the program, whereas the “Bluebird Team”, “Bluebird Book Bag” and “Achievement Display” are the three essential elements of it. The Bluebird Bookcrossing Summer Reading Program has launched a number of innovative measures by focusing the three elements, namely, multi-dimensional integration to activate reading vitality, subjective initiatives to stimulate reading potentials, and task orientation to improve reading effect. The Bluebird Bookcrossing Summer Reading Program process is easy to operate, be duplicated and promoted, which provides a reference for other public libraries in terms of summer reading promotion. It is the representative of innovative practice of summer reading promotion of public libraries in China at this stage.

Connotation and Significance of Primary Source Literacy Education in University Library
Han Yu, Zhu Weili, Huang Qingshan (Sun Yat-sen University Library)
Libraly Journal. 2023, 42 (385): 96-103.
Primary source literacy is a comprehensive literacy based on museum literacy, archives literacy and information literacy, combined with discipline and professional knowledge. Taking the primary source literacy as the teaching goal, teaching activities are carried out by using primary source such as special collections and archives, which are widely carried out in American university libraries, but has not been paid attention to in China. Using the method of literature research, this paper analyzes the connotation of primary source and primary source literacy, and puts forward that carrying out primary source literacy education in university libraries is of great significance to support teaching and research, improve the teaching effect of information literacy, promote the development and utilization of special collections and help the inheritance of traditional culture. Finally, it provides some suggestions on how to carry out primary source literacy education in the university library from the perspectives of holding special lectures, embedding classes, providing internships and planning special collections exhibitions.

Construction and Marginalization: A Study on the Legislation of Ancient Book Protection in Modern China
Li Yonghui (School of Law, Jiangsu University) Sun Yuefan (Institute of Science and Technology Information, Jiangsu University)
Libraly Journal. 2023, 42 (385): 116-127.
opened the road of legislation for cultural relics protection. On one hand, it draws upon the experience of Western cultural relics protection, which leaves a positive impact on Chinese cultural relics protection legislation and practice. On the other hand, excessive imitation derails the system from the times and national character. The ancient books, as the most special and precious among the cultural relics, were gradually marginalized in the process of system construction, partly due to the lack of protection of “movable cultural relics” in international conventions, and partly due to the lack of institutional continuity in legislative content and cultural relics management institutions at that time. In turbulent modern China, every regime and people of insights made institutional improvement and legislative efforts for the protection of ancient books that are not only the embodiment of cultural value, artistic value, academic value and social value, but also stand for the spirit and emotions of national development. We should inherit and carry on such efforts.
