Connotation and Significance of Primary Source Literacy Education in University Library

Abstract: Primary source literacy is a comprehensive literacy based on museum literacy, archives literacy and information literacy, combined with discipline and professional knowledge. Taking the primary source literacy as the teaching goal, teaching activities are carried out by using primary source such as special collections and archives, which are widely carried out in American university libraries, but has not been paid attention to in China. Using the method of literature research, this paper analyzes the connotation of primary source and primary source literacy, and puts forward that carrying out primary source literacy education in university libraries is of great significance to support teaching and research, improve the teaching effect of information literacy, promote the development and utilization of special collections and help the inheritance of traditional culture. Finally, it provides some suggestions on how to carry out primary source literacy education in the university library from the perspectives of holding special lectures, embedding classes, providing internships and planning special collections exhibitions.
