The Bluebird Bookcrossing Summer Reading Program: Shanghai Pudong Library Innovative Practice of Summer Reading Promotion Service

Abstract: This paper explores the innovation of summer reading program of public library by taking the holiday reading activity of Pudong Library “The Bluebird Bookcrossing Summer Reading Program” as an example. The successful creation of the reading brand, the correct cognition of the reading object and the accurate positioning of the reading goal are the three innovations of the program, whereas the “Bluebird Team”, “Bluebird Book Bag” and “Achievement Display” are the three essential elements of it. The Bluebird Bookcrossing Summer Reading Program has launched a number of innovative measures by focusing the three elements, namely, multi-dimensional integration to activate reading vitality, subjective initiatives to stimulate reading potentials, and task orientation to improve reading effect. The Bluebird Bookcrossing Summer Reading Program process is easy to operate, be duplicated and promoted, which provides a reference for other public libraries in terms of summer reading promotion. It is the representative of innovative practice of summer reading promotion of public libraries in China at this stage.
