Libraly Journal. 2023, 42 (382): 4-12.
As one of the fields that first paid
attention to the metaverse and followed its latestdevelopment, the library
communities in higher education have conducted rich and brilliant theoreticalresearch
studies and practical explorations. This paper comprehensively reviews the
progress of theories andpractical applications from the following perspectives:
The cognition of the metaverse library; The possiblefields of metaverse
technology integration into the library; The application and exploration of the
metaverselibrary; The theoretical principles, building path, and technology
infrastructure for establishing the metaverselibrary; And the practical cases
of the library’s metaverse
applications implemented in the Shanghai Libraryand Fudan University Library.
Finally, this paper summarizes the existing problems and difficulties, and thenoutlooks
the future development trend and vision. Hopefully, this paper can provide
helpful information forthe future development of the metaverse library.

The Standards of American
State Public Libraries and ItsEnlightenment to the Establishment of Standards
of LocalPublic Libraries in China
Zhao Yuan, Ren Yunyue, Zhang Xiaofan(School of Public Administration, Sichuan University)
Libraly Journal. 2023, 42 (382): 22-35.
The development of local public library
standard started late in China, and has not evolvedperfectly yet. It requires
theoretical guidance and practical reference. The United States is one of themost
developed countries in the development of library laws and standards in the
world. Therefore, thisarticle, based on per capita GDP and taking into account
other regional factors, extracts the public librarystandards of a total of 21
states, and by means of content analysis, explores the similarities,
differencesand characteristics of public library standards among regions with
different economic development levelsin the United States. It concludes with
the following enlightenment on the establishment of local publiclibrary
standards in China: For the need of a balanced and adequate development, the
comprehensivelibrary standard should be the first priority of local library
standard; The purpose of standard formulationshould be specific and functional;
The formulation of standards should follow specific principles.Standards should
be different yet converging; The content of the standards should embody the
ideas andconcepts of equality, inclusiveness, openness and high-quality
development; The establishment of librarystandard in different areas of
economic development should follow its internal law.

Empirical Study on Judicial Application of Public Library Law(2018-2021): A Sample of 165 Court Decisions
Zhang Jian, Zhang Dongyu (School of Law, Jiangsu University)
Libraly Journal. 2023, 42 (382): 36-43.
The judicial application of the Public Library Law is an important standard to test thelegislative effect of the law, and also provides a window of observation for promoting the futureimprovement of the law. Since its promulgation in 2018, the Public Library Law has played a significantrole in judicial practice. Through the statistical analysis of 165 judgment documents in the past three yearsafter the promulgation and implementation of the law, it is found that the judicial application of the PublicLibrary Law shows the characteristics of increasing cases year by year, uneven regional distribution anddownward shift in court level. In judicial practice, the Public Library Law claims the rights, declares thevalue, and enforces standardization. However, the law has many problems, such as excessive declarativeprovisions, weak direct binding force and low frequency of judicial application. In the future, it isnecessary to improve the legislative quality of the Public Library Law, perfect the reasoning componentof court judgment documents, and strengthen the popularization of law, so as to better promote the furtherdevelopment of China’s public library cause.

Study on the
Assessment of Children’s IndependentReading
Ability Based on PIRLS2021
Shen Chen, Liu Dan, Yuan Xilin ( School of Economics & Management, SoutheastUniversity, School of Humanities, Jinling College of Science and Technology, Southeast University Library)
Libraly Journal. 2023, 42 (382): 44-56.
Childhood is an important period for
developing independent reading ability. Based onthe framework of PIRLS2021, the
paper designs and puts forward the independent reading standardsassessment
model and methods. Grade 4 pupils in Nanjing and Huzhou were selected as the
examinees. The results shows: (1) Independent reading ability is not only the
important part of reading literacy, butalso the external reflection of reading
literacy. PIRLS2021 reading literacy framework is applicablein Chinese context.
(2) Independent reading ability is different from language ability, and
regionaldifferences have limited impact on children’s autonomous reading ability. (3) In
terms of reading purpose, there is a positive correlation between emotional
reading and cognitive reading. The enhancement ofemotional reading ability can
promote the level of cognitive reading ability. (4) In terms of reading
ability, the positive correlation among four abilities, namely, retrieval,
reasoning, integration and evaluation, andthe reading evaluation ability is the
most noteworthy aspect.

Controversy and Thinking on Digital Humanities Research
Yu Yingxiang, ( School of Cultural Heritage and Information Management, Shanghai University, Research Center for Electronic Records Management, Renmin University of China)
Libraly Journal. 2023, 42 (382): 98-105.
Digital humanities has been a research
hotspot in the field of humanities, social sciences andinformation management
in recent years. The academic circles have not yet unified their understanding.Criticism
and reflection have always been there, whereas controversy and disagreement
continue inthe digital humanities research. This paper attempts to sort out
these disputes from the perspective ofcomparing digital humanities with its
potential interlocutors from the four levels of digital humanities’concepts, research subjects, research
paradigms, and technical tools in order to build consensus in thediscussion. It
interprets the concept controversy from the dilemma of the definition of
digital humanitiesas “umbrella”;
explores the evolution of digital humanities research subjects from the
perspective of roleconflict and role reconstruction; analyzes the alienation of
digital humanities research paradigm from theopposition of scientific research
and humanistic spirit; reflects on the tool paradox of digital technologyapplication
from the perspective of labeling and algorithmic risks in digital humanities
research.

Research on Semantic Model of Image Knowledge Reuse from the Perspective of Digital Humanities
Chen Tao (School of Information Management, Sun Yat-sen University)
Libraly Journal. 2023, 42 (382): 106-112.
is transferred.
Today, with the high development of digital technologies, images should beincorporated
into the data circulation link and become a “living” resource. The thesis first constructs
thesemantic model of image knowledge from three parts: description level,
organization level and contentlevel, which correspond to image metadata reuse,
image reuse and content reuse respectively. Amongthem, the semantic model at
the content level involves the four dimensions of the object target’s text, tag, region
and semantic association. Based on the semantic model of image knowledge, the
paper discussesthe construction of the image knowledge reuse chain from “reuse of images”, “reuse of
annotations”and “hybrid reuse”. The case analysis part explores the
advantages of image knowledge reuse from theperspectives of “image reuse”, “research
independence” and “knowledge inheritance”, and tries to providenew research
perspectives and operable paths for the digital humanities application of image
resources.

The service and management of physical
books has always been one of the important contentof university library work.
The article introduces the concept of user portraits, based on the data ofShenzhen
University’s
phsycial book collection service system. Through data distribution statistics,
usingcontent analysis and keyword extraction TF-IDF methods, it mines,
describes and presents user attributes, user behavior preferences and the
characteristic tags of user interest preferences, and constructs examplesof
library user portraits for reference in library paper interviews, services and
management decisionmaking,so as to improve the efficiency of physical book utilization.
