    Libraly Journal. 2024, 43 (394): 4-11.
    摘要 ( 218 )   PDF(CN)(1358KB) ( 287 )

China’s public culture cause has entered a new historical period of high-quality development, and the development of academic disciplines in the field is an important starting point to promote the innovation of public culture theory and practice. Firstly, this study expounds the political, theoretical and practical significance of developing public cultural discipline from the background of the times, academic environment and practical needs. Secondly, the theory of public culture is supported by the theory of public culture transmission, the theory of public culture gradient, the theory of public culture space, and the theory of digitalization and wisdom of public culture. Finally, it points out that the public cultural discipline should be based on library science and culturology, and it is necessary to strengthen the applied theoretical research and integrate the discipline construction into the personnel training system, so as to provide concepts and visions for the development of the public cultural discipline with Chinese characteristics.

The Play and Learn Space: An Innovative Exploration of Family Engagement Space in American Public Libraries
Zhang Li (Beijing Language and Culture University Library)
    Libraly Journal. 2024, 43 (394): 22-30.
    摘要 ( 311 )   PDF(CN)(1420KB) ( 372 )

The Play and Learn Space is stemming from the recognition of inequity in off-campus study time and disparity in educational opportunities among families of different income levels. It is an innovative exploration of the family engagement space within American public libraries. This paper adopts a case study and theoretical analysis method to analyze the family participation space in American public libraries. The Play and Learn Space draws theoretical support from Jean Piaget and Friedrich Wilhelm August Fr?bel’s theory on early childhood play, Urie Bronfenbrenner’s ecological systems theory, and Fred McFeely Rogers’s theory of child development (known as The Toothpaste Theory). Family engagement provides conceptual support for the Play and Learn Space on the one hand, the Play and Learn Space provides spatial support for the implementation of the concept of family engagement on the other hand. The Free Library of Philadelphia’s Play and Learn Space, from the perspectives of “public space/environment”, “interpersonal relationships”, and “game elements”, offers valuable insights and serves as a reference for the development of family engagement spaces in libraries in China.

Digital Transformation of Library Reading Promotion: Connotation Characteristics, Action Framework and Realization Path
Zhao Fazhen (Lanzhou University Library) Liu Yan (Jiangxi Provincial Library)
    Libraly Journal. 2024, 43 (394): 49-56.
    摘要 ( 340 )   PDF(CN)(1367KB) ( 448 )
Accelerating the digital transformation of library reading promotion is an inevitable choice to meet the challenges of the times and empower Chinese-style modernization. Digital transformation of library reading promotion is the integration of digital technology into the field of reading promotion, and promotes all-round innovation and change of library reading promotion. It is complex, takes long time, features phases and periodical goals, and conveys value. In the meantime, we use the systemic thinking approach to build the action framework of digital transformation of library reading promotion from four dimensions: “who to transform”, “how to transform”, “what to transform” and “what to be transformed to”. Finally, we propose to pay attention to the top-level system design and systematic planning of digital transformation of reading promotion, establish a digital ecological community, strengthen the synergy among reading promotion subjects, and implement a differentiated transformation model based on the scale and stage of development of smart libraries.

Exploration of Genealogy Reading Promotion Strategies in Public Libraries from the Perspective of Users
    Ma Buyao (Shanghai Library)
    Libraly Journal. 2024, 43 (394): 64-72.
    摘要 ( 263 )   PDF(CN)(1729KB) ( 441 )

Genealogy is an important cultural heritage. Public libraries at all levels pay more and more attention to the development of genealogy resources. Due to the insufficient survey of genealogy users, however, the formulated reading promotion strategies are mostly based on the subjective judgment of the library and lack accuracy. Through the extraction of response texts to questions regarding family tree by knowledge community users, the features of the texts are captured by LDA model construction, the keywords discussed by interest groups are interpreted, and then the actual focus of family tree discussions is analyzed. It goes on to explore the promotion path of genealogy reading in public libraries from the perspective of users, and puts forward the strategy of embedding memory theory, valuing female users’ perspective, having an international perspective, and innovating genealogy revision.

Be Calculating: Research on the Formation Mechanism of Social Media Users’ Privacy Protection Disengagement
Duan Qiuting (School of Journalism and Communication, Shanghai University) Zhang Dawei (School of Journalism, Fudan University) Chen Yanxin (School of Humanities, Minjiang University)
    Libraly Journal. 2024, 43 (394): 109-121.
    摘要 ( 276 )   PDF(CN)(2028KB) ( 346 )

Although the digital era has aggravated the privacy risks of users, the high protection costs and attractive transfer benefits have triggered users’ privacy fatigue, which leads to the disengagement of privacy protection. Based on multidimensional developmental theory, and starting from the information management dimension and interaction management dimension, this study constructs a research model of social media users’ privacy protection disengagement, collects 579 effective samples through online questionnaires, and conducts data analysis using the method of combining SEM and fsQCA. The study finds that privacy fatigue is a positive factor for privacy protection disengagement, while privacy negative experience and privacy protection cost are positive antecedents for privacy fatigue. In the meantime, the availability of privacy settings and the effectiveness of privacy policies have a negative impact on privacy fatigue. Privacy transfer benefits magnifies the effect of privacy fatigue on privacy protection disengagement. At the same time, there are five antecedent configurations for the separation of high-intensity privacy protection, which can be divided into two modes: revenue-oriented mode and cost-oriented mode, fully revealing the characteristics of users who are ‘good at calculation’ in the process of privacy protection.

Flowing Books: A Textual Research on the Origin and Collection Process of the Version of Mao’s Jigu Ge Carved Lidai Minghua Ji in the East Asian Library of the University of California, Berkeley
Zheng Hao( School of History and Culture, Minzu University of China, Department of History, University of California, Berkeley)
    Libraly Journal. 2024, 43 (394): 122-131.
    摘要 ( 255 )   PDF(CN)(1672KB) ( 388 )

The East Asian Library of the University of California, Berkeley, collects two copies of Lidai Minghua Ji, A and B. Through visual inspection, it is known that the format, font and inscription at the beginning of volume 1 of A and B are identical, and the papers used are yellow bamboo paper. There are the same errors in binding, so it can be concluded that they have the same original. This original should be another unknown copy of the Ming Dynasty reprinted from the Song Dynasty. B is the original single engraved version of Jigu Ge, the earliest one; Jindai Mishu edition was revised according to B, which was later; part of Lidai Minghua Ji in A and B may have the same original. Three kinds of books, namely Hou Hualu, Guhua Pinlu and Xu Huapin Bing Xu, were selected from collections of Jigu Ge, then modified and bound as one by people in late Qing. After dispersing from Jigu Ge, A was owned by the Japanese Imazeki Tenpō, then collected in the Mitsui Library. Later, it was purchased by the East Asian Library, Berkeley. B was originally collected by Li Wentian who was a famous official in late Qing, and has been collected by his son Li Yuanshuo and his grandson Li Yan. On January 9, 1938, because of financial embarrassment and his ancestors’ affinity with Hong Kong businessmen, Li Yan gave B to Hong Kong businessman Fung Heung-tsuen. Feng Jufei, the son of Fung Heung-tsuen, was ordered by his mother to present it to Ping-Wah Fung, brother of the same clan. Later, it scattered from Ping-Wah Fung and was collected by Berkeley eventually. The spread and collection of Lidai Minghua Ji in East Asian Library, Berkeley, is a typical case in the process of knowledge globalization.

    摘要 ( 260 )   PDF(CN)(7417KB) ( 466 )

According to the different contents, the production technologies and the ways of spreading and reading, the ancient books can be divided into different “levels” (for instance, in the Dunhuang documents, Buddhist scriptures and the rhyme dictionaries belong to different levels). The different levels have the various bookbinding formats. There are many rhyme dictionaries in the Dunhuang documents, the Turpan documents and in the handed-down documents. There is a bookbinding format called codex in the level of “rhyme dictionaries during the Tang Dynasty and the Five Dynasties”, which developments reflect a special path of evolution from “rolls” to “codices”.
