The Masses Weekly: A Barometer of the Relationship#br# Between the KMT and the CPC#br#
    Cheng Guang’an
    Libraly Journal. 2021, 40 (9): 4-12.
    摘要 ( 735 )   PDF(CN)(2026KB) ( 889 )
On December 11, 1937, the only comprehensive theoretical journal—The Masses weekly was publicized by the CPC in the Kuomintang ruled area during the Anti-Japanese War. The publication of the The Masses weekly was not only the result of the CPC’s long struggle for freedom of speech and other rights, but also the product of the second cooperation between the KMT and the CPC in the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War. Although the The Masses weekly was able to be established in the Kuomintang District, its publishing and distribution were constantly hindered, disturbed, and destroyed by the KMT. The difficult founding process of The Masses weekly, and its irregular publication, and distribution during the period of the Anti-Japanese War proved that its growth was closely related to the relationship between the KMT and the CPC. In other words, The Masses weekly was a barometer of the relationship between the KMT and the CPC throughout the Anti-Japanese War.

    Libraly Journal. 2021, 40 (9): 22-28.
    摘要 ( 652 )   PDF(CN)(1920KB) ( 563 )
The promulgation of the Public Library Law not only makes it possible for social forces to establish private libraries, but also legitimizes the latter. The establishment of private libraries has played a very important role in safeguarding the basic rights of citizens and promoting the sustainable development of the public library cause. However, the Public Library Law is not strong enough to regulate private libraries, and it is not specifically targeting at private library, making it difficult to effectively regulate and promote the development of private libraries. Therefore, Public Library Law should be amended to make a careful regulation on the basic principles, the main body, conditions and procedures, operation mechanism, support and guarantee, supervision and inspection, withdrawal and takeover of private libraries, so as to lay a legal foundation for the sustainable development of private libraries in China.

    摘要 ( 734 )   PDF(CN)(1984KB) ( 778 )
The application of RFID technology is an important part of building a smart library. However, most of the existing RFID applications only utilize the features of the Internet of Things on the perception level, such as self-service borrowing and returning, collection inventory, security and anti-theft. Although this satisfies part of the needs of smart libraries, it leads the innovative application of RFID technology to a bottleneck, which is manifest especially in the complex management of collections. The emergence of new technologies, such as artificial intelligence, data mining, cloud computing and robot, in recent years has given rise to new developments in the application of RFID technology in libraries. This article integrates the needs of collection management of smart library, explores the application potential of RFID technology in collection management after combining emerging technologies, and takes the Shanghai Jiao tong University Library as an example to design a new generation of smart collection management system, introducing the construction process and application practices.

Zhou Lianggong and Nanjing Culture in the Early Qing: Taking#br# Chen Kaiyu’s Compilation of Jiangning Fuzhi as An Example#br#
Jiang Ouyue (City University of Hong Kong)
    Libraly Journal. 2021, 40 (9): 130-136.
    摘要 ( 454 )   PDF(CN)(2025KB) ( 528 )
Zhou Lianggong had a close relationship with Nanjing literati from the late Ming Dynasties. He became a renegade official after entering the Qing Dynasty. In the early reign of Emperor Kangxi,he already had extraordinary political achievements and social status. In the cultural reconstruction in the early Qing, Zhou Lianggong used his personal relationship to make Zhang Yi and Gao Cen join the governmental project to compile Jiangning Fuzhi. The latter two had good reputations as adherents of the former dynasty, and promoted the publication of this gazetter. From the case of Jiangning Fuzhi, we can see that the renegade official Zhou Lianggong connected the new regime with the local literati who entered the Qing Dynasty from the Ming Dynasty. He moderated the tense cultural atmosphere in Nanjing and made it possible for adherents to cooperate with the new government. Together, the adherents of the former dynasty and new government built the city culture of Nanjing in the early Qing. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, in front of the change of dynasties, the renegade officials, such as Zhou Lianggong, took the role to ease the contradictions and became an important part in the formation of new governance.

A Textual Study of the Buddhist Play Guiyuanjing: Woodblock#br# Prints in the Qing Dynasty#br#
Wang Mengxiao (Department of East Asian Languages and Cultures, University of Southern California)
    Libraly Journal. 2021, 40 (9): 145-154.
    摘要 ( 528 )   PDF(CN)(3632KB) ( 555 )
The Buddhist play Guiyuanjing written by Monk Zhida has been widely circulated from the early Qing period until today. Its historical reception illustrates the dynamic interactions between Buddhism and theater in early modern China. There are multiple editions of Guiyuanjing, which have not yet received sufficient scholarly attention. Based on my archival research at libraries in Mainland China, Taiwan, Japan, and the United States, I discovered several editions that had never been recorded before and summarized two systems of the woodblock prints in the Qing Dynasty. In this article, I argue that the Zhaoqing Monastery edition was published in the late Qing, rather than in the early Qing as previous studies have stated. The publication of the Zhaoqing Monastery edition demonstrates how different Buddhist monasteries in Zhejiang province collaborated to publish books in the nineteenth century. I also show that the 1784 Beijing Dragon King Temple edition was adapted to the conventions of performing large-scale plays at the Qing court. Drawing on a close reading of these editions, this article explores the hybrid nature of sacred andsecular characteristics of Guiyuanjing.
