An Analysis on the Development Characteristics#br# of Registered Reports in Open Science Environment#br#

Abstract: The Registered Reports in the open scientific environment has received extensive attention from worldwide academic and publishing industry. Revealing their publishing status and trends can reflect the research hotspots and changing path of the registered reports to some extent. Using comprehensive content and statistical analysis method, this paper analyzes the publishing characteristics and trends of the registered reports from six indicators: the distribution of published date/time, source journals, author and affiliation, citation frequency, research topics, and regions where authors are from. It then summarizes and extractes the basic characteristics of the registered reports. The current publishing characteristics and trends of the registered reports are as follows: the number of the published registered reports is increasing year by year; the source journals are concentrated in a few publishers; the institutions of the first authors of the registered reports are scattered in different areas; universities play a major role during its publishing and dissemination; the registered reports have formed a certain academic influence; they are mainly concentrated in the fields of medicine and psychology; and the regions where the registered reports are published are mainly developed countries.
