What Will Libraries Look Like in the Next Twenty Years?
Wu Jianzhong (University of Macau Library)
Libraly Journal. 2023, 42 (391): 4-9.
Driven by a new round of scientific and
technological revolution and industrialtransformation, librarianship, like
other industries, is facing opportunities and challenges oftransformation and
upgrading. On the one hand, the library is expanding from information
processingand information service to a wider range of academic exchanges and
research, and its service focus ischanging from serving readers in the library
to responding to social (community) development needs. On the other hand, the
steady progress of the open access movement in the past two decades has createda
favorable environment for libraries to evolve towards knowledge infrastructure.
In the next twodecades, libraries will play an increasingly important role in
the construction of knowledge infrastructureand the advancement of open
science. The author uses three keywords – connection, navigation andcreation – to propose the direction of future efforts. First, librarians must
become promoters and leadersof connections, exerting their ability to organize,
coordinate and mobilize various resources. Second, librarians must actively
participate in the process of open science development and give full play to
theirexpertise in resource management, data utilization and reference service.
Third, libraries should strive tocreate an environment conducive to user
innovation and creation, so as to assist economic and culturaldevelopment.

The Transformation of Digital Scholarship Paradigm in AI2.0 Era
Jin Jiaqin, Liu Wei (Shanghai Library)
Libraly Journal. 2023, 42 (391): 10-21.
Digital scholarship is a research
paradigm in which digital technologies and methodsintervene in the academic
research process. The breakthrough of generative AI represented by ChatGPTmarks
the arrival of generalized AI, which some scholars call the “AI2.0 era”, and
also makes scientificresearch transition from data-intensive to
computationally-intensive, thus entering the fifth paradigm.More and more of
the research process will be involved in, or even dominated by AI. Different
from datadrivenresearch, big models not only can conduct data acquisition, extraction,
management and analysisin a more efficient, or even “automatic” way, but also have the potential to realize the “understanding” ofmassive scientific data, so
as to discover new laws and trends. The big model can not only help scientistsbetter
understand the data, but also provide a more comprehensive and in-depth
perspective for scientificresearch. At the same time, it can also be applied to
a variety of related scenarios, to help scientistsfind errors and defects in
the data or results, thereby improving the reliability and repeatability ofscientific
research. Of course, with the wide application of AI technology, it also brings
some challenges. For libraries, research-oriented services will become more
academic and technical. In addition toinfrastructure, construction of research
communication environment and data support services, they willintervene more
deeply in the research process with AI thinking and digital methods and tools,
provide thenecessary support in protecting the privacy and security of data,
and avoid data leakage, misuse or ethicalissues.

A Comparative Study of Research Data ManagementPolicies in Universities from a Cross-Regional Perspectiveand Their Implications
Fu Shaoxiong, Teng Yutong, Han Yue, Gao Yichao ( College of InformationManagement, Nanjing Agricultural University, School of Information Management, Nanjing University)
Libraly Journal. 2023, 42 (391): 48-61.
With the growing importance of
data-intensive research, the volume of research data isincreasing explosively,
universities and research institutions in various regions have successivelyimplemented
or improved their research data management strategies. However, research data
managementin most universities in China is still in the development stage and
has not yet formed an effectivemanagement system. Therefore, the comparative
analysis of research data management policies ofrepresentative universities
under different regions is conducive to the improvement and innovation ofdomestic
research data management policies and the optimization of relevant management
system.Literature research method and network analysis method were adopted to
collect and collate the researchdata management policies of top 100
universities in the QS World University Ranking in 2023. Froma cross regional
perspective, we built a category system for research data management policies
based onthe data lifecycle model, including 4 first-level categories and 14
second-level categories for comparativestudy, in order to provide references
for the practice of research data management in domestic universities. It is
found that the level of sophistication of research data management policy is
not the same among different regional universities. North American universities
excel in research data organization. Europeanuniversities focus on data storage
and publishing. Oceanian universities attach importance to the norms ofresearch
data creation. Among Asian universities, those in Singapore and Hong Kong area,
China havemore comprehensive research data management policies than others.
Combining with the excellentpractice of university policies in different
regions, it is recommended that Chinese universities promoteone-stop service
for research data management, manage research data support needs in differentdepartments,
and develop multi-functional research data management software.

Liu Shuang (Shenzhen Yantian Library)
Libraly Journal. 2023, 42 (391): 71-79.
Against the backdrop of the
high-quality development of the current public culturalservice system,
utilizing cultural IP to enhance the capabilities of public libraries to serve
the publicand to distribute information is of very practical significance. The
article aims to explore feasible pathsfor the construction and development of
cultural IP in public libraries by studying practical cases ofbuilding Shenzhen
Yantian Library’s cultural IP. This
article sorts out the entire process of the culturalIP construction, including
selecting the direction, construction methods, maintenance and management, and
explores the full process management methods of the cultural IP construction of
public librariesbased on the status quo of public libraries in China. Research
has found that the construction of culturalIP for public libraries in China is
still in its early stage, mainly focusing on aspects such as image design, event
building, and creative products. By identifying the characteristics of its
collections and positioningits jurisdiction, Shenzhen Yantian Library selects
the overall theme of its cultural IP, and constructsits cultural IP throughout
the entire process, including reader service, building construction, brandactivities,
and creative products. This relatively rare model, to some extent, can provide
reference for theconstruction of cultural IP in public libraries.
