Crossover or Cross-border: A Study on the Positioning,  Boundary and Breakthrough of the Socialization of Public  Libraries in the New Era
    Jin Wugang
    Libraly Journal. 2019, 38 (5): 4-12.
    摘要 ( 451 )   PDF(CN)(2174KB) ( 40 )
Socialization is an important reform of public libraries in terms of systems and mechanism.
There are three major driving forces for the socialization, namely, the mission of public libraries, the
transformation of government functions, and their new tasks in the New Era. We should clarify the
positioning of public libraries and must not change their attribute of being “public”. There are many
means of socialization, including cooperative services, outsourcing certain business, volunteer services,
library established by social forces, and social forces joining in library governance. We should clarify the
principles and boundaries of such socialization process and pay attention to the essential difference between
“socialization” and “marketization”, the scope of commercialized operations, the responsibility during
outsourcing, the role of libraries in government purchases, and the rational use of volunteers. Reading
promotion, central-branch system development, R&D on cultural and creative products, online to offline
services, and involvement in decision-making are the key breakthroughs in the socialization process of
    public libraries.

Investigation and Analysis of the Popular E-book Service ofLibraries
Yang Jia, Zhang Wei, Zhang Yinglu
    Libraly Journal. 2019, 38 (5): 21-29.
    摘要 ( 477 )   PDF(CN)(2095KB) ( 29 )
The paper makes an analysis of e-book service targeting at the general public based on
questionnaires taken by domestic e-book providers for libraries, including integrators and publishers.
From the aspects of resource development, technical characteristics and business model, the status quo and
development of representative popular e-book services are analyzed. Popular e-book platforms suffer from
a couple of prevalent problems such as the small proportion of new arrivals, the low synchronization rate
of paper books and e-books, and the poor reading experience. At the same time, the difficulty in integrating
resources between suppliers also make it less easy for libraries to provide unified services. The paper,
therefore, proposes to e-book providers to increase the openness of data, and to promote e-book reading
after studying users’ reading behavior in collaboration with libraries.

Building Library E-book Platform with Open Source Software:A Practice of Shanghai Library
    Zhu Wenjing
    Libraly Journal. 2019, 38 (5): 30-38.
    摘要 ( 388 )   PDF(CN)(2137KB) ( 25 )
Shanghai Library has explored many ways in providing e-book services, such as e-book reader
lending, building a reading platform with metadata integration, and developing reading app and related
digital reading hardware. These, however, cannot effectively address the issues of poor content quality,
copyright infringement and less desirable user experience. And now there is a new attempt to enhance the
digital reading experience on the part of Shanghai Library by purchasing and processing EPUB format
e-books independently and using open source software to build its own e-book platform. This paper mainly
introduces the main structure, function modules and related design concepts of the platform.

    Chen Youhua, Wang Luyi
    Libraly Journal. 2019, 38 (5): 39-47.
    摘要 ( 318 )   PDF(CN)(2456KB) ( 31 )
In order to investigate into the reading habits and preferences of post-00s college students,
and to put forward tailored reading guidance strategies, this paper conducts a questionnaire survey among
universities in many cities throughout the country, carries out statistical analysis of the survey results, and
makes a comparative study. The results show that, although the reading status of the post-00s freshmen is
not ideal, they hold positive feelings and respect for paper reading and classics reading, which indicates
good foundations for reading promotion. Based on the survey data and comparative analysis, the paper
puts forward reading guidance strategies that consist of 1) optimizing library reading promotion work
planning, 2) implementing detailed guidance mechanisms for reader groups of different subjects, 3) taking
classics as the core of reading promotion work, 4) promoting in-depth reading by way of paper books,
    5) giving full play to the impact of experts and senior students, 6) enhancing the connotation and fun of
reading activities, and 7) launching reading programs supporting college students’ academic achievement
and spiritual improvement. The paper illustrates the effectiveness of the strategies with exemplary
    cases.

Application of Information Retrieval Results Visualization Based on Hierarchical Topic Model
    Ruan Guangce, Ren Jinyue
    Libraly Journal. 2019, 38 (5): 71-78.
    摘要 ( 281 )   PDF(CN)(3169KB) ( 12 )
In the retrieval results, the hierarchical relationship of knowledge is hidden. We use hLDA
model to analyze the hierarchical topic, reveal the path of the topic in the retrieval results, and thus
provide knowledge service of high quality. First, we realize the preprocessing of the retrieval results by
building the professional knowledge database. Secondly, we obtain the hierarchical topic structure through
reasonable super parameter sampling. Lastly, combined with visualization technology, we describe the
hidden knowledge of academic information retrieval. Experiments show that this method is effective for
visual analysis of retrieved results. Compared with the classical hierarchical clustering method, the results
    are more readable.

    Sun Mo
    Libraly Journal. 2019, 38 (5): 100-109.
    摘要 ( 221 )   PDF(CN)(2019KB) ( 14 )
The western learning books compiled from 1880 to 1904 are now in a series, which mainly
reflect the diachronic changes in the cognition of western learning. Analysis by name, this batch of
bibliography has the different appellation such as translation book, western learning, thing learning, new
learning, science almost. From the perspective of connotation, it has experienced a process of continuous
expansion from pattern and structure (natural science) to social science and then to humanities. However,
the change of classification system involves the determination of the focus of western learning and the
balance of the academic value of different literatures, which has become a systematic statement of academic
transformation. Therefore, the development of bibliography of western learning is not only the evolution of
literature order, but also the evolution of academic coordinates. It presents different standards to measure
the value of knowledge and different schemes to distribute knowledge power, and directly corresponds to
the path selection of the future and destiny of a country in different contexts
