Research on the Issues and Challenges of Open Science Based on a Systematic Literature Review
Sheng Xiaoping, Ge Qiao
Libraly Journal. 2026, 45 (7): 4-15.
Understanding the challenges and problems in open science can better inform theoretical research and practical development. Using a systematic review approach, we analyzed 174 relevant papers and identified key challenges and problems through cluster analysis. The findings reveal that open science faces not only a range of overarching problems and challenges, but also field-specific issues in areas such as open data, open access, citizen science, open educational resources, and open-source software. The healthy development of open science should be promoted through multi-dimensional measures such as cultivating an open science culture, improving the ability of stakeholders, optimizing management mechanisms, strengthening financial and technological support, formulating and improving policies and regulations, and strengthening safety and ethics norms.

A Study on the Tiered Development System of Cultural and Creative Products in Public Libraries: Based on the Practice of the Shanghai Library
Yuan Ying
Libraly Journal. 2026, 45 (7): 33-40.
Against the backdrop of public libraries transitioning from project-based exploration to systematic management of cultural and creative product development, how to balance public welfare attributes with market benefits and build a sustainable development system has become a key industry issue. Using literature analysis and case study methods, this research takes the practice of the Shanghai Library as an example and proposes a tiered development system centered on the “core visual narrative”, comprising four tiers: public welfare tier, mass consumption tier, experience value-added tier, and cultural premium tier. Drawing on the balanced scorecard theory, the study synthesizes feedback from three dimensions: public welfare synergy, market responsiveness, and narrative effectiveness, to guide optimization in topic selection, design, pricing, distribution channels, and subsequent expansion. The study argues that cultural and creative product development in public libraries should not simply replicate commercial cultural-creative models; instead, they should be grounded in the unique characteristics of library collections and public cultural responsibilities, and establish a coherent operational framework that integrates resource transformation, tiered development, and feedback-driven adjustments. This research provides an analytical framework and case reference for the systematic development of cultural and creative products in public libraries.

ALA “National Library Week” Reading Promotion Activities: Present Status, Characteristics, and Implications ALA
Gao Chunling, Wang Hongyu
Libraly Journal. 2026, 45 (7): 41-49.
In the fourth week of April 2026, China officially implement the annual “National Reading Activity Week,” and 2026 mark the inaugural year of this initiative. How to better operate and plan it is of great significance and far-reaching impact. This study adopted online survey and case study methods to comprehensively review the current practices of ALA “National Library Week” campaign. Drawing on the implementation experience, it provides important reference for Chinese libraries to cultivate the reading culture, optimize and upgrade reading promotion activities, and steadily improve public cultural service effectiveness during the 15th Five-Year Plan period. The study found that the campaign has five major characteristics: clear and dynamic focus, systematic and diversified activity formats, continuous incubation of derivative products such as cultural and creative items, deepening breadth and depth of social participation, and strong sustainability of library reading promotion brands. During China's “National Reading Activity Week”, libraries can optimize reading promotion work, deepen national reading activities and set off a reading boom in the whole society from three aspects: giving full play to the unique value of the Chinese Library Association, highlighting the role of libraries in the “National Reading Activity Week” and encouraging social forces to participate in reading promotion activities by adapting to local needs.

Exploring the Pathways to Integrate Traditional Chinese Medicine Culture into University's Reading Therapy Services: Centered on the “Yuanzhi Xinzhai” Reading Therapy Service of Zhejiang Chinese Medical University Library
Tian Rong, Li Lufang, Jiang Liping, Zhang Yu
Libraly Journal. 2026, 45 (7): 50-59.
Exploring the integration pathways of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) culture and university's reading therapy services can help promote the development of library reading therapy services with Chinese characteristics. By applying literature research and empirical research, this paper examines the positive role of TCM culture in promoting the mental health development of college students. Taking the “Yuanzhi Xinzhai” reading therapy service of Zhejiang Chinese Medical University as an example, the study constructs a TCM-featured reading therapy bibliographay system, develops symptom-based reading therapy book prescriptions with TCM characteristics, and implements a series of mental health activities, achieving practical outcomes and demonstrating good value for wider application in developing reading therapy services with Chinese characteristics. It proposes four approaches to further promote the integration of TCM culture into library reading therapy services: constructing a trinity integrated model, promoting cross-disciplinary integration and innovation, providing multi-sensory reading therapy experiences, and facilitating the localization of reading therapy.

Promoting the Expression of Information Needs: A Study on Information Search Assistance Strategies for Elementary School Students
Lin Bo, Wang Wenbo, Zhang Mengyi, Xie Yi, Zhang Jinghan, Ma Junyang, Wang Xinyue, Liu Xiaohui, Liu Chang
Libraly Journal. 2026, 45 (7): 89-103.
This study aims to explore how to effectively facilitate elementary school students' expression of information needs and assist them in information search. The ultimate goal is to optimize their learning process and task completion effectiveness. This study employs participatory observation to document the types of questions and search processes when assistants help elementary school students conduct information searches in a library setting. The data were coded based on theories of information need expression and the Decision Ladder Model. The findings reveal that elementary school students' questions are mainly open-ended; however, support personnel should rely more heavily on closed-ended questions to gradually guide students in articulating their information needs. Elementary school students need the most support during the stages of information-need identification and content interpretation within the information search process. Based on these findings, the study proposes a three-stage support framework for information need expression, including task analysis, result evaluation, and response generation. It also provides specific recommendations for task design, support strategies for assistants, system optimization measures, and directions for information literacy education.

Libraly Journal. 2026, 45 (7): 110-115.
The leafcasting machine, to some extent, helps solve the fundamental challenges in the practice of traditional ancient book restoration techniques, including lengthy repair cycles, high restoration difficulty, low efficiency, shortage of skilled professionals, and scarcity of restoration materials. It can greatly improve the quantity and quality of literature restoration and help achieve large-scale restoration capacity for ancient books. From the perspective of historical and technological development, the invention of leafcasting machine represents a technological revolution in traditional ancient book restoration practices, and signifies a fundamental transformation of traditional craftsmanship through modern science and technology.

Binyangzi Chronology and Official Compilation in the Late Kangxi Period
Dong Shiqi
Libraly Journal. 2026, 45 (7): 116-124.
The Binyangzi Chronology was compiled by Gu Chenxu, the editor employed at the Kangxi Inner Court. It records in detail the historical events of the compilation of the imperial editorial offices from the late Kangxi period to the beginning of Yongzheng period. According to the chronology, the official institutes selected talents through examinations, recommendations, part-time appointments, and calls to form a team. In addition to compiling books, the editors also served as advisors to the princes, responsible for educating the princes, assisting in answering questions and advising, and also had some leisure time for recreation. The advisors who had worked for more than six years had the opportunity for promotion, and when there was a shortage of official posts, they could be appointed to serve as government officials. However, in the late Kangxi period, there were too many people who needed to be sent out to become officials, which resulted in a shortage of official positions and redundancy of staffs. Many scholars used to think that the imperial editorial offices was located at Mengyangzhai, but now according to the chronology, they had two locations, one in the Changchun Garden and another in Rehe, which were relocated seasonally. During the Yongzheng period, the offices were relocated to the southwest corner of the imperial city. The Binyangzi Chronology can provide assistance for the relevant research on the compilation of books in the Qing Palace and holds important historical value
