Abstract: The Binyangzi Chronology was compiled by Gu Chenxu, the editor employed at the Kangxi Inner Court. It records in detail the historical events of the compilation of the imperial editorial offices from the late Kangxi period to the beginning of Yongzheng period. According to the chronology, the official institutes selected talents through examinations, recommendations, part-time appointments, and calls to form a team. In addition to compiling books, the editors also served as advisors to the princes, responsible for educating the princes, assisting in answering questions and advising, and also had some leisure time for recreation. The advisors who had worked for more than six years had the opportunity for promotion, and when there was a shortage of official posts, they could be appointed to serve as government officials. However, in the late Kangxi period, there were too many people who needed to be sent out to become officials, which resulted in a shortage of official positions and redundancy of staffs. Many scholars used to think that the imperial editorial offices was located at Mengyangzhai, but now according to the chronology, they had two locations, one in the Changchun Garden and another in Rehe, which were relocated seasonally. During the Yongzheng period, the offices were relocated to the southwest corner of the imperial city. The Binyangzi Chronology can provide assistance for the relevant research on the compilation of books in the Qing Palace and holds important historical value
