Wu Jianzhong (University of Macau Library)
    Libraly Journal. 2022, 41 (6): 9-14.
    摘要 ( 861 )   PDF(CN)(1548KB) ( 712 )
There has been a global “Library Rejuvenation” since the 1990s, and a number of new libraries are emerging or being rebuilt, many of which are iconic buildings. At the same time, library has gone through a period of transition from book-oriented to people-oriented. The past 20 years of “Library Rejuvenation” has witnessed how the library architecture is becoming increasingly rational and returning to its origin. “People-oriented” is now the guiding ideology behind the library architecture. Shanghai Library East, which stands out in the era of “Library Rejuvenation”, is truly a piece of world-class work in both appearance and function. This paper examines Shanghai Library East in the context of global library construction over the past two decades, focusing on three themes, namely, return, transformation and cooperation. It elaborates how the library design has evolved from emphasis on aesthetic look to emphasis on function, from book-oriented to people-oriented, and from an architect’s work to a collaborative work between architect and users. By making such an in-depth comparison and analysis of the architectural features of Shanghai Library East, the paper demonstrates its influence on the field of library design.

    Libraly Journal. 2022, 41 (6): 46-52.
    摘要 ( 568 )   PDF(CN)(1914KB) ( 621 )
Artificial intelligence involves various fields of human society, and interdisciplinarity is its basic characteristic. Studying the interdisciplinary structure of artificial intelligence and the relationship between subdisciplines is important for the government to formulate the development strategy of artificial intelligence. In this paper, we used the data of AI-related literature resulting from Web of Science between 2017 and 2020, and by way of bibliometrics and social network analysis, analyzed data from multiple perspectives, such as disciplinary networks, disciplinary clusters, disciplinary individuals and disciplinary keywords, to reveal the interdisciplinary characteristics of AI. The study found that: 1) AI-related literature contains 237 disciplines, accounting for 94% of the core collection of Web of Science, reflecting the strong interdisciplinary character of AI. 2) The disciplines of AI are naturally clustered into 15 main disciplinary clusters, and 5 major disciplinary clusters are in a mature, core position in the disciplinary ecology. 3) The five major disciplines of computing and materials have the largest number of AI research results and the greatest influence on AI in other disciplines. Life science such as medicine and pharmacy AI literature has the largest number of citations, and features high-quality AI research or applications. 4) The relationship between AI sub-disciplines based on disciplinary core terms shows that two-thirds of the dichotomous disciplines are relatively close, but overall, there exists a huge difference, with the phenomenon of “those who are close are extremely close and those who are distant are extremely distant”.

The Origin and Development of Page Numbers in Ancient China
Wu Shaowei (School of History and Culture, Shandong University)
    Libraly Journal. 2022, 41 (6): 116-125.
    摘要 ( 647 )   PDF(CN)(2985KB) ( 672 )
The page number is one of the most inconspicuous but indispensable elements in modern books, but this element did not appear with books. The earliest symbol with partial function of page numbering in Chinese books probably was the Jian Hao(简号)in the era of the booklet, but the symbol was very different from the page number, and was not widely used. In the first few hundred years after the paper age, scrolls, the main form of Chinese books, did not use any page numbers. The most used page number was in the form of Fanjiazhuang (Buddhist-classic binding), but also not widely used. The reappearance of the foliation on Chinese books may have been derived from block printing, and its function is to ensure that the paper is in order. As the symbol became popular, page numbers had a deep impact on the reading and utilization of books. However, Chinese books independently generated pagination system has certain defects compared with the Western pagination system. In modern times, with the introduction of Western civilization, the page numbering system on Chinese books was gradually replaced.

Family Letters from Qian Yan Tang, was published by Xuehai Monthly in 1944, contained a set of twelve letters collected by Qu Zhongrong, which has quite a lot of mutual evidence with Chen Yuan’s “An Explanation of the Fifteen Handwritten Letters of Qian Zhuting”. The chronological interpretation of the journals in the Xuehai Monthly reveals that these twelve letters were all written in Qian Daxin's old age when he was lecturing at the Ziyang Academy in Suzhou, and the events written in the journals are useful in clarifying the historical facts of Qian Daxin’s later years with Wang Chang, Ji Yun and others. The letters are written in a simple style and provide a glimpse into Qian’s daily life.
