Study on the Public Perceptions of the Value of Public Library as “Place” in the Era of Technology: Text Analysis of the Libraries’ Online Reviews Based on the Public Platform
Jin Wugang, Zhong Jinghan (Faculty of Economics and Management, East China Normal University)
    Libraly Journal. 2022, 41 (1): 17-28.
    摘要 ( 735 )   PDF(CN)(2032KB) ( 727 )
In the era of technology, the “place” value of library as a physical space is a crucial research
topic related to the future development of library. Exploring the value of library as place from the perspective
of public perceptions can help identify important influencing factors of the development of librarianship.
After systematic analysis, the online reviews on the public platform of the three representative public
libraries—Shanghai Library, Pudong Library and Binhai New District Library—were selected. Python,
Jieba word segmentation, SnowNLP and other data collection and analysis tools were applied to conduct
text mining and analysis on the public perceptions from three dimensions—distribution of high-frequency
words, sentiment analysis and time series. The results showed that public library is still an important “place”
for public reading; the “place” services of public library are very popular, and social evaluation is extremely
positive; promoting the development of culture and tourism integration is a public perception feature of the
value of public library “place”. In the era of technology, public libraries should attach great importance to
the new changes in public perceptions of the value of “place”, and view culture and tourism integration as a
crucial content for the future development to promote the high-quality development of librarianship.

The Independent Library is Public Library: Discussing the  Public Character of Gu Yue Library at the Same Time
Na Yan (Shaoxing Library) Wu Hanhua (Shanxi University of Finance and Economics)
    Libraly Journal. 2022, 41 (1): 37-42.
    摘要 ( 575 )   PDF(CN)(1650KB) ( 431 )
Some do not believe the independent library is a type of public library, and the main reason
could be they fail to see the nature of a public library. Public libraries have the attributes of being open
to the public, free of charge, and providing social education. The independent library also exhibits the
attributes of serving the public, public goods, and undertaking social education. The social rationality of
the public library for the independent library can be considered from three aspects: public recognition,
national legal system guarantee, and government administrative recognition. The Gu Yue Library is the
earliest modern independent library in our country, and also the earliest public library. It had the value of
enlightenment and innovation in social education at that time.

Inheritance and Development: From Local Documents to  Folk Historical Documents
Wang Shuiqiao (History & Archives College of Yunnan University)
    Libraly Journal. 2022, 41 (1): 43-53.
    摘要 ( 621 )   PDF(CN)(2394KB) ( 616 )
As an important part of local documents, folk historical documents are the important
materials of Chinese humanities and social sciences, as well as precious cultural heritages. Based on
a large number of folk historical documents that are still scattered in various places at present, public
libraries should inherit the traditional collection methods of local documents, absorb the existing
research results of the academic circle, and collect them systematically through field investigation and
other methods. Field work can not only collect folk historical documents, but also obtain “expansion
of the historical material” such as oral legends and ritual performances. The combination of documents
interpretation and field work has greatly broadened our understanding and vision of local documents.
There are many new representative methodologies for public library in the collection, collation and
database construction of folk historical documents, such as field work methods in literature collection,
the principle of original documents in local preservation, the principle of household belonging and
maintaining the original document system in collation. In terms of database content, the database is
experiencing the “expansion of historical materials” that includes national laws and regulations and
Confucian literature, while demand-oriented way and cross-border cooperation are conducted in the
    development of database.

Identifying and Modeling Works in CNMARC Bibliographic  Records
    Xu Lei (Shanghai Library)
    Libraly Journal. 2022, 41 (1): 67-74.
    摘要 ( 524 )   PDF(CN)(1838KB) ( 459 )
Work identification is a key step in bibliographic data reconstruction and determines all
subsequent operations. The concept of the work in the bibliographic universe was inherited from Panizzi,
and the dichotomy of the work and the manifestation of the bibliographic data was finally established after
the elaboration of Lubetzky and others. Operability works can be identified at the embodied text level by
referring to the title of the work, all those contributors, and the language identified based on user research.
At the same time, the top-level abstract entity — Superwork is introduced into the work model to realize
the aggregation of related works and finally form the work family. CNMARC bibliographic records needs
to be subcontracted according to the language and the type of aggregates. From simple to difficult, the
corresponding work identification programs are developed for each type of records. The identification and
modeling of works in the CNMARC records are illustrated by non-translation monolingual literatures,
    translated literatures and series.

Approaches of “Fostering Virtue through Education” during Reading Promotion
Shi Xiaoqing (Weihai Branch, Shandong University Library) Xi Juanche (Library of Shaanxi University of Science and Technology)
    Libraly Journal. 2022, 41 (1): 82-86.
    摘要 ( 468 )   PDF(CN)(1647KB) ( 564 )
Reading promotion by university libraries can not only directly promote students’ quality
improvement and cultural inheritance, but also bear the sacred mission of “cultivating people by virtue”.
Reading promotion is an effective carrier of internalized “moral education”, and the main ways of moral
education are reading with red themes, reading classics, deep reading and reflection, the impact of real
example people, and educating people in cultural space. In this process, the thought of morality should
be highlighted, the connotation of morality should be explored, and the multi-objective compatibility of
    reading promotion should be realized.

Xiao Aoxia , Dong Jiahui , Liu Huawei, Di Hongwei, Yang Siluo( School of Information Management, Wuhan University, Research Center for Chinese Science Evaluation, Wuhan University)
    Libraly Journal. 2022, 41 (1): 98-105.
    摘要 ( 440 )   PDF(CN)(1785KB) ( 563 )
This research expands the methods and research perspectives of user access behavior
analysis, and provides support for the services and management decision of libraries. This research uses
the 2017-2018 Fudan University Teachers and Students Chinese Electronic Journal Resource Access
Behavior Dataset, constructs user access behavior profiles by data mining techniques and methods,
and explores and discovers users regularities in access time, operating preferences, access patterns, and
retrieval preferences. It draws the conclusion that the active time of users shows a cyclical change of “three
increases and three decreases” within a day, and changes periodically with work, study and vacation
within one year; in terms of operating preferences, users prefer instant and quick short visits; a visit is
often performed alternately between simple retrieval and browsing operations, and users are increasingly
inclined to obtain information through online browsing instead of downloading; in terms of retrieval
methods, users prefer to use the default “subject” as the limiting condition, and directly use the retrieval
box on homepage to perform simple retrieval.

Gu Tinglong and the Publication of The Early Compilation  of the Catalog of Antique Editions in the Ming Dynasty: Working Hard for Cataloging Ancestors’ Achievements Instead of Self-interest
Wang Yu (Art School of Jiangsu University) Shen Jin (Rare-book Room in Yenching Library, Harvard University)
    Libraly Journal. 2022, 41 (1): 106-113.
    摘要 ( 372 )   PDF(CN)(1979KB) ( 416 )
In the thirty-third year of the Republic of China, The Early Compilation of the Catalog of
Antique Editions in the Ming Dynasty authored by Gu Tinglong and Pan Jingzheng got published. For the
first time, this book was known as a catalog, including two hundred and three kinds of high-quality books
in the Ming Dynasty, and each book contained one or two photocopies of its texts inside and version
information. It not only initiated a new paradigm of edition bibliography research, but also had a specific
influence on the later Chinese Engraving Catalog and Catalog of Antique Editions in the Qing Dynasty.
During the time of editing and publishing this Catalog, Gu Tinglong participated in establishing the
United Library in Shanghai at the invitation of Ye Jingkui and Zhang Yuanji. Deeply studying the library
construction in a special historical period and the arrangement mode of the catalog of ancient editions
tends to be beneficial to further exploration of published historical materials and current research.

intermarriage, dispatching envoys, bestowing rewards and translation. The contents of the document
exchange mainly focused on Buddhism, Confucianism, history and medicine, as well as agriculture,
animal husbandry, calendar, geomancy, etc. Three characteristics were presented in the document

A Study on the Printing of Wanli Huixian Chronicle: On  the Loss of Index Books and the So-called Tianqi Huixian Chronicle
Li Bo (College of Chinese Language and Literature, Wuhan University)
    Libraly Journal. 2022, 41 (1): 122-127.
    摘要 ( 402 )   PDF(CN)(2045KB) ( 406 )
It is generally believed that the Huixian Chronicles have been recodified seven times from
Ming to Qing Dynasty, of which the Wanli’s and Tianqi’s editions are the only two existing copies.
However, the Wanli’s edition collected by Henan provincial library is a supplementary edition, reprinted at
least after the Twenty-fifth year of the reign of the Wanli Emperor. Moreover, the Tianqi’s edition did not
even exist. The four volumes collected in the National Library belong to Wanli’s edition, supplemented
and reprinted in Chongzhen years. Compared with the former edition, there are some changes, and the
index books need to be revised. We can see many slight modifications from the two editions of Wanli
Huixian Chronicle. More attention should be paid to cataloging and using these supplementary editions.
