Reflections on Progress of Multi-level Higher Education of Library and Information Archives Management in Chinese Mainland: From 2016 to 2021
Tian Ye (Department and Graduate Institute of Library and Information Science, Taiwan University)
Libraly Journal. 2022, 41 (2): 4-23.
In the context of the construction of “Double First Class University” and “New Liberal Arts”, all levels of professional education in the discipline of library and information archives management are undergoing rapid change and uncertainty in Chinese mainland. In recent years, the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council has made dynamic adjustments of educational institutions with undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs six times, involving as many as 90 on LIS programs. Due to the non-rigorous research dimension and structure, there is always a lack of empirical research on professional education based on complete LIS first-level disciplines, especially the lack of attention to the trend of disciplinary adjustment. In view of this situation, this research collects vital information from multiple channels, takes the institutions with LIS programs in Chinese mainland as the research object, and analyzes the establishment and enrollment status of such institutions. The main research findings are summarized below. Firstly, the scale of LIS disciplines has reached a historical high, with a total of 107 disciplines at various levels, including 41 undergraduates, 93 masters (57 academic masters and 75 professional masters), 17 doctors, 14 post-doctoral and 4 junior colleges; Secondly, the regional distribution of disciplines is more balanced, and currently 29 provinces have set up relevant levels of LIS disciplines. Higher-level educational resources such as doctoral educational institutions are highly concentrated, mainly in Beijing, Jiangsu Province, and Hubei Province. Thirdly, from the perspective of diachronic analysis, the undergraduate level tends to decline steadily and develop more towards higher level; the master level represented by professional master’s degree develops rapidly; the departmental background of LIS discipline setting is more diversified, and the traditional academic master’s degree has a certain tendency to shrink; the doctoral level shows a steady growth and the cultivation quality improves year by year. Facing the possible mismatch between supply and demand in the LIS labor market brought by the continuous expansion, we propose a collaborative governance model of multiple entities under the guidance of combining supply and demand, and introduce LIS professional associations as pivotal entities, so as to achieve a dynamic balance between the supply scale, structure, quality and market demand.

Research on the Spatio-temporal Differences and Influencing Mechanisms of the Service Efficiency of Public Libraries in China
Han Hui, Li Shaohui (School of Management, Lanzhou University)
Libraly Journal. 2022, 41 (2): 24-35.
The improvement of public library service efficiency is directly related to the construction of modern public cultural service system. The paper takes space as the starting point, uses the super-efficiency SBM model to measure the service efficiency of public libraries in 31 provinces (municipalities) in China from the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” to the “Thirteenth Five-Year Plan” period, adopts geographic detectors to quantitatively analyze the temporal and spatial evolution characteristics of library service efficiency, and explores the influencing factors and influencing mechanisms in depth. Research shows: (1) The overall level of service efficiency of public libraries in China since the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” period is mediocre, and the service efficiency of 31 provinces can be roughly divided into 5 levels; (2) There is obvious spatial heterogeneity in the service efficiency of public libraries, which is affected by factors such as economic development level, education level of residents, fiscal decentralization, urbanization level, facility network, library activity, and team building. The factors affecting service efficiency during the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” period mainly include the level of economic development, fiscal decentralization, and library activity, whereas the influencing factors during the “Twelfth Five-Year Plan” period include a new facility network based on the “Eleventh Five-Year Plan” period. During the “Thirteenth Five-Year Plan” period, the education level, urbanization level and team building of residents were newly added; (3) The spatial differentiation of public library service efficiency in China is determined by policy. It is the result of the continuous circulation of the six-element influencing mechanism of financial security, talent introduction and structural adjustment, social security and social equity, structural transformation and function expansion, cultural equipment management and network operation, as well as activity management and activity innovation.

A Bootstrapping-based Information Extraction Method for Genealogy Text
Bao Chenyang, Ren Ming (School of Information Resource Management, Renmin University of China)
Libraly Journal. 2022, 41 (2): 93-102.
Automatic information extraction from genealogical text is the key to exploiting genealogy resources efficiently. Recently, deep learning has achieved remarkable success in information extraction from genealogy text, but has been limited by a lack of labeled data in this field. This paper aims at developing a bootstrapping-based method targeting at small-scale labeled genealogy text, which extracts information from biographies of family members. To be specific, the method starts with a small-scale labeled data and uses the BiLSTM-CRF model to predict label sequence, with those samples with the highest confidence scores chosen and added to the labeled data. In this way, the labeled data is incrementally expanded and the trained model can predict label sequence for given genealogy text, which is further used to derive entities and relationships. According to the experiment on real dataset, the proposed method can extract the information from digital genealogy text based on a small scale of labeled data, which makes deep learning methods more effective and practical for information extraction from genealogy records. The proposed method with a size of 250 achieves similar performance to that of the BiLSTM-CRF model with 1800 labeled data.

Libraly Journal. 2022, 41 (2): 119-127.
We have has entered the post- COVID-19 epidemic era. Taking the Internet users as the research object, this paper explored the health information needs of the public in the post-epidemic era, in order to provide the basis for the information release and policy making of relevant departments. Taking the social Q&A platform “Zhihu” as an example, a coding system of user health information needs was constructed by combining LDA topic model with manual annotation. The characteristics and evolution rules of user health information needs were revealed from the dimension of time and topic through cycle division, content analysis and needs intensity analysis. In the post-epidemic period, Internet users’ health information needs are mainly concentrated in three aspects, namely, COVID-19 related knowledge, epidemic prevention and control, and social impact. The core need of users is “epidemic prevention and control”, while the unique need is “COVID-19 vaccine”. The research shows that the health information needs of users are still highly sensitive to the epidemic in the post-epidemic era, and also reflect the epidemic prevention and control status.

Application of Enzymes in Paper Documents Restoration
Huang Xiaoxia (School of Information Resource Management, Renmin University of China) Jia Minghao (School of Archaeology and Museology, Peking University)
Libraly Journal. 2022, 41 (2): 128-134.
Physical means and water treatment are often applied to paper cleaning and remounting during the process of restoration. However, when it comes to seriously damaged paper in ink or pigment, careless treatment can easily do harm to paper documents. Enzymes can catalyze the hydrolysis of adhesives, therefore, fragile documents would be separated easily with less physical damage. In this article, the related researches at home and abroad on the application of three common types of enzymes, namely, alpha-amylase, protease and lipase, in the process of cleaning and remounting are introduced, whereas influencing factors, application effects as well as safety of enzymes are analyzed in order to provide some guidance in actual restoration work.

The Errata of Pre-Qin, Han, Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties Poems
He Wei (Chinese Language and Literature, Zhengzhou University)
Libraly Journal. 2022, 41 (2): 135-141.
The Poems of Pre-Qin, Han, Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, edited by Lu Qinli, is a masterpiece of poetry before the Tang Dynasty. Due to the limitations of working conditions, heavy volume, and compiled by one person, there are some inevitable omissions. In the past forty years, the academic research on this book has produced considerable results, especially in adding missing works, examining works, correcting authors’ biography, discussing compiling styles, and revealing collation errors. But there are still many mistakes in the text that have yet to be cleaned up, such as repeated compilations, wrong sources of literature, wrongly accepted works, Tang poems mistakenly included, and errors and omissions in texts. Since this book is at the core of the pre-Tang literature, it is slightly explained to provide some references for further revision.

Textual Research on Wang Xizhi’s True Birth and Death Years in Shi Shuo Xin Yu : Also on Several Issues in Wang Xizhi’s Research
Yang Miaoping (College of Literature and Journalism, Hanshan Normal University)
Libraly Journal. 2022, 41 (2): 142-146.
There are many hints in Shi Shuo Xin Yu (also known as A New Account of the Tales of the World) about the time of Wang Xizhi’s birth, engagement, and death. Regarding Wang Xizhi’s birth time, it is stated in The Twenty-seventh Chapter of False Intent: when Wang Dun rebelled for the first time, Wang Xizhi was less than ten years old. It can be seen that Wang Xizhi was born no earlier than 313 AD. Concerning Wang Xizhi’s engagement time, The Sixth Chapter of Yaliang states: when Xi Jian was in Jingkou, one of his former students wrote to Wang Dao (Wang Xizhi’s uncle) to ask Wang Xizhi to be Xi Jian’s son-in-law. Xi Jian began to guard Jingkou in 328 AD. It can be inferred that Wang Xizhi’s engagement date should not be earlier than that year. As for Wang Xizhi’s death time, The Eighth Chapter of Appreciation says: Yu Qian (pet name Ni) wrote the inscription for Wang Xizhi. Yu Qian was killed by Huan Wen in November 371 AD. The Twenty-fifth Chapter of Pai Tiao writes: when Emperor Jian Wen was walking on the temple, Wang Xizhi and Sun Chuo followed him. Emperor Jian Wen took the throne in November 371 AD. Hence, it can be extrapolated that when Emperor Jianwen took the throne, Wang Xizhi was still alive. It follows that the time of Wang Xizhi’s death should be 371 A.D. Therefore, Shi Shuo Xin Yu shows that Wang Xizhi’s true birth and death time was between 313 AD and 371 AD.
