As we approach the stage of in-depth informatization led by a new generation of information technologies such as big data, cloud computing and the Internet of Things, we are greeting the advent of “Big Reading” era, when artificial intelligence resurges to create the times of intelligence and to transform and even subvert human reading behaviors. Public libraries, amidst the critical challenges and opportunities, should adopt people-oriented design thinking to construct hardware and software, while resorting to connection strategy to connect people to people, people to knowledge, people to space to knowledge, as well as physical space to cyberspace so as to develop constantly. Since reading is omnipresent, public libraries could well implement the strategies of reading+ and library+.

The preservation, reuse and value added of digital resource have been receiving increasing attention of library circle. Basing on a comprehensive review, this article puts forward a general concept of digital/data curation. Performed by the producer, curator, consumer and other stakeholders, digital/data curation is a digital materials management activity where active intervention be carried out throughout its whole lifecycle aiming to reuse, share and add value to digital materials. This paper suggests “数字/数据 理用” as a possible Chinese translation for “digital/data curation”.

The paper analyses the application of keywords co-occurrence cluster method, articles cocitation analysis method, strategic coordinate distribution method, high frequency word analysis method and data flow analysis method to hotspots and the research frontiers detection, and demonstrates the effectiveness and limitations of each method, providing optimizing options for subject information analysis. Driven by information technologies and AI, a smart media age is coming. Information distribution is becoming more intelligentized, shared and context-aware, while libraries, users and information will be reconnected and deeply interacted. Being the major force in promoting the nationwide reading, the public libraries are greeting a critical turning point for development and innovation. The operating mode, service and space of public libraries are being reshaped, while all the reformations and innovations should be user-oriented. To accomplish the shift from the libraries of “books” to the libraries of “users”, and to become a smarter “third space” of culture, public libraries need to offer intelligent, ubiquitous, and humanized services.

With the rapid growth of mobile Internet, a digital reading era has come. The Shanghai Library, following the pace of the times, has launched a citizen digital reading program, which has been widely praised by the society and has become a model for the innovation service of the public library. Based on in-depth interviews with relevant persons in Shanghai Library’s citizen digital reading program, this paper comprehensively introduces how the Shanghai Library, from its initial attempt in E-reader loan service, gradually to a well-known citizen’s digital reading program, and the difficulties and solutions of the Shanghai Library in the course of this process. Meanwhile, this paper also gives a brief introduction to the future development path of the citizen’s digital reading program of the Shanghai Library.

16 well-known large and medium-sized database vendors were investigated by means of questionnaires and interviews. Most famous overseas database vendors but only one domestic vendor (i.e., Tongfang Knowledge Network Technology Co.,Ltd.) were found to have followed COUNTER. Only 4 Chinese database vendors abided by the corresponding domestic standards. Tongfang was also the only one who could provide statistics platform and the log information among the domestic practitioners. The statistical functions should be improved on the part of both Chinese and foreign databases. The statistical indicators of each database were different, and the definitions about the same indicator differed as well. The ideal model of utilization statistics for electronic resource was discussed at the end of the paper.

A new approach of citation and standardization of geographical information from historical local documents was designed for digitalization project of the SJTU library collection, which was aimed to present, utilize and analyze the documents digitally. By means of manual work, some analyzable data satisfying the experts were cited from various historical archives and standardized into the metadata, abiding by the segment principle. Thanks to the source statistical data, the majority of documents which were intensively distributed were coded preferentially. Making the computer-readable codes would contribute to the utility functions. Considering the features of administrative division during the period of the Ming and Qing dynasties, the geographical information was edited as number codes which had five files with every two number mapping to province, county, du, tu, and village. Meanwhile the village names were edited to be codes under the principles of standardization, compatibility, identity and expansibility. The methods could be applied to link the relevant documents, acquire information automatically and explore the visualization of geographical distribution.

Randomly selecting 200 readers of Guangzhou Library, the paper makes an investigation into the readers’ demands using KANO model. The result shows that public library must firstly meet the readers’ basic demands, and then go beyond. When necessary, priorities should be established according to satisfactory degrees. After that, it should also pay close attention to meet the demands that, once satisfied, will make libraries attractive to readers. Corresponding countermeasures are put forward to improve readers’ satisfaction.

Library WeChat mobile service is the extension and supplement of library services. This paper interprets library WeChat mobile service and designs a long-term WeChat service mode. It also introduces the working philosophy and procedures, as well as practices of application. It’s proved that transformation of ideas is the premise of library mobile services innovation, and that work mode innovation is the right choice for services quality and efficiency improvement.

Objective: Understanding the collection of sports literature resources will be conducive to library development among the national fitness fad. Methods: sports literature resources (ball games, track and field, cycling, physique and health dance class) were selected as the research target, and macroscopically discussed; the present situation and developing trend of sports literature were analyzed. Results: 1) publication of all kinds of sports literature has increased by over 50% in the recent decade; 2) physical and sports dance books were most obviously increased, whereas physical training and yoga and shaping books occupy the largest proportion in the increase. Books related to track and field were the least increased. Conclusion: There are great differences in the literature resources of various sports, which will directly affect the library collection layout. Library should therefore develop literature resources accordingly, and actively update service models to meet the needs of diversified sports literature information.

In CNMARC form, controversy exists regarding the 517 field usage due to the broadness of its description content. This article addresses some prevalent controversial issues through thorough analysis, and puts forward a more reasonable solution.

In order to discover the relationship between literature academic characters and the novelty of sci-tech project retrieval, this paper studied the dependence influence between the project novelty of scitech novelty retrieval and the four key academic characters, namely, object, content, method and result. The multiple-regression analysis method, 54 agronomy articles, and five agronomy projects randomly selected were used in this paper. The academic character similarity and correlation of sci-tech novelty retrieval project in those articles was respectively evaluated and scored by 10 professional novelty researchers. According to the results of the grading score, articles closely related were extracted. A total of 900 sets of data were obtained, and three different types of correlations were found, leading to a multiple regression combination model that was tested and verified afterwards.

With the development of university intelligent libraries, the role of indoor positioning technology has become more prominent in the management of intelligent libraries with location sensing. To solve the problem of poor indoor positioning accuracy in a complicated library environment with WLANbased location fingerprint positioning technology, this paper proposes a new positioning technology which integrates WLAN-based location fingerprint positioning technology with 6LoWPAN-based WSN positioning technology on the assumption of access to IPv6 network. This paper briefly introduces the working principle of location fingerprint combining 6LoWPAN-based positioning technology, and designs the new modules of library intelligent positioning system in terms of hardware and software. System testing reveals that, compared with the single location fingerprint technology, the integrated positioning system boasts a higher positioning accuracy. At the end of the paper, the development prospects of the system are discussed, providing reference for university libraries to construct library intelligent positioning system.

In this paper, the development of health information service in the National Library of Medicine is investigated deeply by the network investigation method. And find the details of the specific content of the MedlinePlus website online services, web services, quality of service standards and service characteristics. What’s more, taking the Indian tribe health information services promotion project as an example, the model and characteristics of the promotion project of the National Library of Medicine in the United States are summarized. Finally, It provides some enlightenment for the development of health information service in public medical libraries in China.

Guangyue Yinghua compiled by Xu Zhongli of the Early Ming Dynasty, has at least three editions survived, including one edition published in the Early Ming Dynasty, two manuscripts by Wang Shizhen and Tan Jichong. All editions are consisted of seven-character regulated verse, 15 volumes, which is incomplete. The original edition is a comprehensive selection, including poems of the Tang, Yuan and Ming, and of all kinds of modes, with more volumes. The five volumes of the Ming of the editions survived are the most valuable parts, with obvious regional traits.

Commodity prices in the early Tang dynasty remain stable and generally speaking, each volume of handwritten books valued at more than 100 wen. Due to the political turmoil and years of fighting in the late Tang dynasty, the prices were rising. And each volume of handwritten books were worth 1 000 wen, ten times that of the previous. With the appearance of printing technology in the stage of history, each volume of printed books valued at more than 100 wen because of copying facilities and large circulation. This equals to 1/10 of the price of the handwritten books. This parity had not changed from the Tang dynasty till the Ming dynasty.

Liu Wendian purchased two volumes of manuscripts of Fang Bao with Fu Zengxiang’s help. And when he read the notice on Xue Feng, library journal of Anhui Provincial Library about soliciting private and public document of past generations, he wrote Mr. Chen Dongyuan, then curator of the library expressing his willingness to provide the manuscripts for copy. Chen published the letter on the journal, and the message went to Liu Shengmu, who wrote to Chen and Liu respectively asking for makeing a copy of the transcript. Liu Wendian has the transcripts made in Bejing and send to Chen Dongyuan and Liu Shengmu. Thus based on the transcript, Liu Shengmu compiled and published four volumes of Supplement to the Third Sequel of Wangxi Anthology.

The book The Library: A World History narrates the world history of library building development for the first time. From the perspective of architects, the author reviews the historical evolvement of the library building from the origin to the 20th century, analyzes the relationship between architects and librarians, as well as the historical status of China ancient libraries, exploring the solutions to reinvigorate library as cultural inheritance.
