The Citizen Digital Reading Program of the Shanghai Library

Abstract: With the rapid growth of mobile Internet, a digital reading era has come. The Shanghai Library, following the pace of the times, has launched a citizen digital reading program, which has been widely praised by the society and has become a model for the innovation service of the public library. Based on in-depth interviews with relevant persons in Shanghai Library’s citizen digital reading program, this paper comprehensively introduces how the Shanghai Library, from its initial attempt in E-reader loan service, gradually to a well-known citizen’s digital reading program, and the difficulties and solutions of the Shanghai Library in the course of this process. Meanwhile, this paper also gives a brief introduction to the future development path of the citizen’s digital reading program of the Shanghai Library.
