Information Service Platform for Science and Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship: New Information Service Practice in the NSLC

How can professional libraries explore innovative services in their attempts at transformation?National Science Library of Chinese Academy of Sciences (NSLC) provides a possible answer with an open information service platform for science and technology innovation and entrepreneurship. It develops five types of activities within 2 years and offers knowledge services such as data analysis and technical trend analysis. It attracts a large number of entrepreneurial projects, investors, researchers and the media,and succeeds in building a knowledge service model that adds to library’s value. Limited by the service mechanism and team, however, practices are still on the initial stage, with services to be expanded.

Analysis on Development of the Book Citation Index Databases between Home and Abroad

The paper introduces and compares the two main book citation index databases BkCI & CBkCI, their significance and existing problems. It reveals similarities in the agencies who build them,resources inclusion criteria and the services provided, as well as some differences in the fields of resources, languages, and the start year of inclusion. Book citation index is of great value for information retrieval and citation analysis, but problems exist such as data inconsistency, and the complex connotation of book citation. At last, the paper provides some improvement suggestions for those who have built or will build book citation index databases.

A Study on the Script of Yuyu Youji Written by Nobusama Inoue Collected in the National Diet Library of Japan

Nobusama Inoue was a famous China hand in Meiji period, played a central role between China and Japan. However, his activities in China haven’t been recognized enough in Chinese academic world. The Yuyu Youji collected by the National diet library of Japan is the script of travel notes in China written by Nobusama Inoue, which is one of the most important travel notes written in Chinese by Japanese in the late Qing Dynasty. According to Yuyu Youji the travel experiences in China of Nobusama Inoue could be cognize deeply, also his outlook on China might be assessed at a glance. More importantly, Yuyu Youji recorded geography, landscape, traditional customs economy, products and cultural relics where Nobusama Inoue passed through, All of these above reflect essential research value.
