A Revisit to Units of Information
Yu Liangzhi, Fan Zhenjia, Cheng Letian
    LIBRARY JOURNAL. 2016, 35 (7): 4-11.
    摘要 ( 1510 )   PDF(CN)(2014KB) ( 694 )

This paper reviews the endeavor of library and information science in search for information units to be used in information organization and retrieval. It then adopts Yu’s recent definition of information as basis and examines the possibility of dividing information into various units. It shows that there exist at least three levels of units for information: work, chapter, thematic section; it argues that although work is the most commonly used unit in nearly all professional activities, it is possible to use other units in at least some of the activities. It then takes Yu’s Back to the Fundamentals Again paper as an example and
demonstrates that these three levels indeed exist and that each level enables a different depth of information organization. This paper contends that future research is needed to test the universality and utility of these three levels of information units through large scale empirical research and to develop a typology of formats (e.g., concept based, fact based, graph based, formula based, etc.) for the lowest level of information unit.

On the Model Building of Public Digital Cultural Resources Integration in China
Tang Yi, Xiao Ximing, Zhou Lihong
    LIBRARY JOURNAL. 2016, 35 (7): 12-25.
    摘要 ( 3616 )   PDF(CN)(1991KB) ( 858 )

    Based on the system theory, the Model of Public Digital Cultural Resources Integration (MPDCRI) is built, and the inherent logic relationships among the four elements of this model—integrating objective, integrating bodies, integrating objects, and technical standards—are described. The optimization of Chinese MPDCRI is as follows: the integration target of Chinese MPDCRI should be meeting the public’s demands on “one-stop” access to public digital cultural resources; the integration practices should be coled by the Ministry of Culture and the State Archives Administration of the People’s Republic of China;
advanced and unified technical standard system should be adopted; and all types of public digital cultural resources should be integrated into a unified platform to build an integrated information space of Chinese digital cultural resources. Within this framework, the integration model of National Cultural Information Resources Sharing Project is optimized to provide references for promoting further development of the project.

The rulers in the Song Dynasty thought that books had played an important role in moral education and eliminating disorders of society, so they searched for various kinds of books in the early days of foundation of the Dynasty. The donator was awarded with a variety of forms, such as imperial encyclic award, rank promotion and physical rewards. Governors encouraged to donate books by providing diverse forms of rewards under a standard with great incentive. These measures cultivated people’s passion on contributing of books. They not only enriched the collection of books but also promoted the development
    of cultural and educational enterprise.

    Zhong Shujuan
    LIBRARY JOURNAL. 2016, 35 (7): 94-101.
    摘要 ( 1224 )   PDF(CN)(2057KB) ( 720 )

It is normally believed that for the Compilation of the Siku Quanshu, during Qian Long’s rule, Zhu Yun, the educational officer of Anhui Province who originally established the academic organ to proofread books, submitted 37 kinds of books, 16 of which were taken into the Catelogue Summary of Siku Quanshu, and 4 of the 16 were taken into the Deposit Account of Si Ku. Zhu Xigeng thought that the books submitted by Zhu Yun had been recorded under Cheng Jinfang’s name. Carefully checking the File of Editing the Siku Quanshu and the Bibliography of Si Ku Takend, we found that among the over 50 kinds of books submitted by Zhu Yun, 14 were taken into the Siku Quanshu, and 2 of the 14 were taken into the Deposit Account of Si Ku. The fact that most submitted books had not been returned was an important reason to cause the misunderstanding of Zhu Xigeng to Cheng Jinfang.

Jiang Tan was a famous literati of Qiantang region in late the Qing Dynasty. He took refuge in his friend Wang Jingzeng’s home located in Huangshan, Cixi and wrote the first draft of A Small Local Chronicle about Huangshan, which recorded landscapes of Huangshan and the history of Wang's family.
Then a clansman of Wang’s family called Wang Renyuan, on the basis of Jiang Tan’s first draft, wrote the Continue Writing of A Small Local Chronicle about Huangshan. The two were combined into one,and called A Small Local Chronicle about Huangshan. The chronicle recorded geography and history of
Huangshanconcisely and comprehensively. It was unique, but had many shortcomings especially in the numbers of characters and amount of information. Still, it is an excellent tiny village chronicle, which has been passed down to today, retaining the history of Huangshan and people’s love for it. It also gives a lot of inspiration for modern chronicle scholars.
