In this paper, the author puts forward the concept of the third-generation library. While the first-generation library is collection centered and the second-generation library emphasizes open access, the third is people oriented, with emphasis on people’s needs, accessibility, openness, integration of environment and resource and is committed to promoting knowledge communication and exchange, creating new communication environment, highlighting multi-attainments and inspiring community vitality.

Metadata preservation is an important way to ensure the viability, renderability, understandability,authenticity and identity of digital resources. To review the latest development of metadata preservation and provide reference for domestic agencies that are engaged in digital preservation, the authors analyse the
core standards, proceedings of important conference and outcomes of important projects. The important development in right metadata, significant properties, metadata preservation regarding special digital resources, semantic of metadata preservation and provenance metadata are also summarized in the end.

To find out whether the theory of Interaction Process Analysis (IPA) can be applied to analyzing tacit knowledge interaction between individuals in information organizations, the paper analyzes associated internal and external relevance between IPA and individual tacit knowledge interaction. It finds out that individual tacit knowledge interaction in information organizations shares some essential characteristics of IPA. For example, it stresses emotional reactions, features dual interaction between users and knowledge providers, and aims to solve problems. Based on those, IPA will not only increases the sharing willingness of employees in information organizations, and promote tacit knowledge transfer, but also interprets the micro process of tacit knowledge interaction in information organizations. These findings reveal that IPA can be applied to studying the tacit knowledge interaction in information organizations. It could also help information organizations to understand users’ thoughts and emotions in information service.

Researches on the resource sharing service of personal digital library presently are at the initial stage, but the current experience in the construction of website knowledge transfer system can provide effective references for it. The paper concentrates on the knowledge transfer on some websites, analyses
system dynamics modeling, and then reveals the causal relationship of the factors which influence the knowledge transfer and the internal cause for the various policies, regulations and measures adopted. By comparing the similarities and differences between the website knowledge transfer and the resource sharing service of personal digital library, the paper then discusses the successful experience of the website and its enlightenment for the resource sharing service of personal digital library.

This paper introduces the “seed library” service among American public libraries which have popped up in the recent decade. Firstly, illustrates its background and origins. Then some general information about its operation models is provided, and the conduction process is described through
the case of the Pima County Public Library. At last, some thoughts on the service are put forward, and several suggestions for library improvement are given, as interaction with society, more attention to users’experience, as well as efforts to enhance readers’ ability for self-educated study and to acquire cooperation with other organizations.

From the statistical analysis of titles, acquisition process, patron status and circulation, the results of patron-driven acquisition in Xiamen University Libraries are in line with libraries of foreign countries in many aspects, yet with their own characteristics in terms of acquisition criteria and process.Suggestions are given on implementation of patron-drive acquisition in China based on the practices in libraries of foreign countries and the operation in Xiamen University Libraries.

Through analysis of the library and the librarian, and considering the special resources in vocational colleges, the paper discusses the construction of librarians’ platform based on Library2.0 concept, by means of which, the professionalism of librarians could be enhanced.

Space reconstruction has been an important trend in library, and many public libraries are offering new service space. Base on the case study, the paper introduces the new service spaces in Shenzhen Library,summaries the experience during its space reconstruction and service expansion. The author puts forward that the public library should become the center of local cultural inheritance and communication, and the platform of social learning. They should also further integrate resources.

During the development of literature resources, public libraries should seek assistance and support from social forces. Considering the lack of social credibility and dissatisfied status of book donation,the author discusses that public libraries on county level should set up “My Study” reading area and seek
help from social resources in order to promote service ability and realize their own development.

This article analyzes the status of the small world theory using CiteSpace II, a visual software.The results show that the leading countries are China and the United States: the Chinese institutions represented by University of Science and Technology of China and the American institutions represented by University of Michigan constitute the major highly-quantities institutions. The productive authors also mainly come from China and the United States. The disciplines of hotspots include physics, computer science,neuroscience and psychiatry, and mathematics, whereas the research frontiers are different in different periods. We identify a cornerstone piece of literature and other six pieces with outstanding contributions.

Since natural language was introduced to the computer retrieval system, it has been favored by users, due to its freedom from restrictions of professional experience, knowledge background, and retrieval experience. As the title of the Chinese literature greatly reflects its content, it embodies the central idea.
Retrieval methods of natural language described in this article only refers to subject indexing in literature title. The basic idea of this method is automatically indexing the literature titles and natural language that is used in retrieval. To control the definition of a given keyword, namely, meaning transformation, it will
produce the final indexing words. Then, using the vector space model, an “or” operation wil be conducted on the index data , resulting in a document set B. Another automatic indexing will be performed on each document title in set B. The indexing terms thus produced will be used for a similarity calculation with the natural language indexing terms. The documents in set B will then be arranged as per the level of similarity,and the ones that meet the best retrieval requirements will be presented to users. This method is a simple and practical method of natural language retrieval.

This paper surveys the status of the mobile library and wechat services currently, and analyses the deficiencies of the mobile service.Then the paper discusses the advantages of using open-source framework WeiPHP to develop Wechat in library. Based on analysis of business needs about library, it
proposes the technical ideas and then illustrates the application process and the practice effect of Wechat Library of Nanjing University Library.

This paper makes a comparative analysis of the construction of institutional repositories in China and the United States from five aspects: development situation, management policy, software application, open access, and resource collection. It then analyses the problems in Chinese open access
repositories, draws the experience from American counterparts and puts forward relevant countermeasures in terms of policy support, technical support, quality assurance and resource construction.

History of Southern Qi Dynasty, punctuated and collated by Wang Zhongluo and published by Zhonghua Book Company, is currently the most authoritative version of the book, absorbing the related research results of Chinese scholars from the ancient to the modern. But there’s an overseas Collation of the
book—Ogyu Sorai’s postils on History of Southern Qi Dynasty of Nanjian Ben, which is less noticed and failed to fully tap the collating function. The paper provides some referential suggestions about collations of these postils, by doing classification, statistics and analysis.

In ancient Chinese novel A Dream of Red Mansions, Chapter Eighty-three, there is a puzzling word Kui Bi Hui Huang. The scholars have given it a disparity of interpretations and explanations. For example, Kui and Bi are two brilliant stars in Chinese mythology and here metaphor the emperor and empress respectively in a collated and annotated version of the book released by People’s literature Publishing House, while Kui Bi refers to the high wall or white wall of the emperor palace in another issued by Beijing Normal University Publishing Group, but it means the screen wall opposite the gate outside a classical courtyard in a dictionary, so different and so confusing. Having searched database of ancient Chinese books, the authors found that here it should be the word Jin Bi Hui Huang, meaning resplendent or splendid, a common usage in Ming and Qing Dynasties literatures, and character Kui was a shape false
of character Jin. Of course, all the published interpretations and explanations according to the false original text are wrong.

Mingshi Yiwenzhi in the Dianben edition were mostly revised and edited from Qianqintang Shumu, but the weak points in Mingshi Yiwenzhi were not form Qianqintang Shumu. In the compilation process of Mingshi Yiwenzhi, every manuscript revised and edited the former one, and inevitably formed
some new errors. This thesis tracks down the original documents, and analysis on the causes of the five flaws or points in Mingshi Yiwenzhi.

There are many different opinions about the Yiwenleiju of Jiajing little words edition in the Ming dynasty. After the collation, it was found that the three edition, such as Yiwenleiju of Hu’s preface、recutting of Lu’ postscript and Pingyang, were both belong to the same system. Among them, the edition of Hu’s preface had printed exquisitely, re-cutting edition of Lu’ postscript had later printed by the same wokers, the edition of Pingyang was the re-cutting edition of Hu’s preface. The master copy of little words edition have lager differences with the existing Song edition, maybe have another system.
