Freedom and curiosity are inherent in all children, who are regarded as a special group included
in the library services. Libraries should work in obedience to children’s inbuilt instincts, and respect their
rights as patron and the value of free reading by children. Libraries should be their friends, and help in any
way to stimulate their curiosity and desire to explore, and encourage their initiative of reading to cultivate
good reading habits. Libraries should in no case duplicate the educational mode applied by schools to
become a “second classroom”.

This paper discusses the evolving relationship between libraries and users, and focuses on
five changes, such as the change from information users to information creators/providers, the changing
role of users towards that of librarians, and the reinforced user-centered service model. It then analyses
the inevitable emergence of participatory library from the perspectives of library 2.0, the nature of library
model and contemporary library focuses. It also calls attention to the issues to be addressed in the process
of developing participatory libraries.

The paper introduces the goal of ECNU’s collection development and the methods of implementation.

The paper collected the circulation data of literature resources of Nanjing Institute of Industry Technology from 2006 to 2010, analyzed its collection structure, then pointed out some defects for it. The author suggested higher vocational college libraries should formulate the reasonable collection subject structure system and strategies of book copies, in order to further optimize the collection quality.

Books suppliers are very important in the book acquisition. In this paper, three suppliers are evaluated according to the model and the mathematical calculation based on analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and grey relational analysis (GRA). Empirical study shows that the combination of AHP and GRA can work objectively to evaluate the book suppliers, thus providing reference for the selection of book suppliers.

The service counters are the basis for library readers’ service. This article will put forward some conflicts in the design of current working hour system and its practices. Meanwhile, it analyzes the insufficiency in the measures, which are to solve the above conflicts. To perfect the personnel policy, it proposes some ideas on the redesign of the working system, considering government policy and social demands.

The fast development of SNS grabs the attention of libraries. However, the practice of utilizing SNS for information reference is still in its initial stage. Based on the analysis of the value of SNS in academic libraries, this paper proposes a three-part system for information reference and some strategies to overcome the obstacles.

Based on the brief analysis of the current status and the urgent needs of the Internet information in our country, the author presents a new concept “cloud-direct searching” in this essay, and introduces three new typical applications, such as Summon Suggestions, Quertle, and GoPubMed, with detailed elaborations of their approaches. The discovery experiences are summarized, whereas opportunities and challenges of this constructive method are proposed in the end.

In this paper, based on a detailed study of the technical framework of WebGIS, research and design spatial data expression way, map service and map query key technology. And by means of Mapserver, PostgreSQL/PostGIS, QGIS and other open source software, realizes the collection of spatial information visualization. Experiments show that the visualization of spatial information can greatly improve the efficiency of Library services.

Master copys of Sikuquanshu (四库全书) is what the official scholars used to edit Sikuquanshu, and most of them were burn up in the war. The master copys of Sikuquanshu in Nanjing Library retain many original marks which were produced in the process of editing Sikuquanshu. Their academic value is very great for the study of it.

In this paper, I conclude that the Index and Indexing for Books, Periodicals and Newspapers, written by Qian Yaxin, is China’s first modern indexing monograph by comparing with Indexing: a handbook of instruction and On Indexing.
