From Portals to Platforms: The Implementation Technologies for Libraries

The platform of library catalog is very important to the transformation of a library in the Internet age. Europeana, the Digital Public Library of America and other large libraries have been implemented the platform, mainly by designing the framework of data model, publishing linked open data,developing open application program interface, deploying embedded mobile apps everywhere, and creating user collaborative communities. These approaches can be learned and adopted by the domestic libraries.

This paper analyzed the transformation of Library in the new situation and problems of library management system, such as insufficient top-level design and planning, imperfect standardization system, and insufficient depth and breadth of information. Based on the analysis, this paper put forward the basic
characteristics of the next generation of library management system: platform, extensive application of resources and services, and the integration of new technologies. Taking Chongqing University Library’s empirical case as an example, this paper analyzed the problems of the transition to next-generation services platform library management system and described the trends of its development.

Visualization Analysis on Interdisciplinary Research FieldKnowledge Sources: Take Chinese Medicine Interdisciplinary Research Field as a Case Study

This paper applies co-citation analysis method to interdisciplinary research field and takesChinese Medicine interdisciplinary research field as a case study to reveal its knowledge sources. Taking 248 core journals in the field of medicine and health, which were included in “General Contents of Chinese Core Journal (2011ed)” as data source to construct CMSCI database, and based on Chinese Library Classification (4ed), to identify 13,259 papers as interdisciplinary literature on Chinese Medicine . It then adopts CiteSpaceⅢ to visualize the important knowledge sources and interprets their characteristics according to years of publication. This paper revels that 1) the interdisciplinary studies between pharmacy and Chinese medicine is the primary one for interdisciplinary research in the field; 2) the knowledge sources varies in different periods, but four theoretic classics on traditional Chinese medicine remain to be the essential knowledge sources and are cited frequently; 3)literatures such as the co-authored Chinese Pharmacopoeia constitute the important basis of knowledge sources; 4) scholars at home are increasing their attention to foreign counterparts from 2004 to 2012, when their intellectual updates fastened at a high speed.

The Service Innovation of Public Library in Taiwan, China (Part A)

Based on the comprehensive use of expert interviews, observation method and literature investigation method to systematically collect service statistics of public libraries in Taiwan, this paper describes a series of outstanding cases in terms of buildings and equipment, resources and people, and generalizes the experiences of service innovation. In Part A of this paper, we briefly introduce the service status of public libraries in Taiwan firstly. Then, some practices in the implementation of reading environment and equipment upgrade program in Taiwan are introduced, such as the focus on transformation of the old space instead of acquiring a new building, segmentation and overall planning, the layout of the space according to ages, construction of eslite atmosphere and connotation as well as the adoption of green building standards.

WeChat Marketing for Library: Taking the Library of Zhejiang University of Technology as An Example

When WeChat became an integral part of life, library needs to connect local resources with mobile services to meet the needs of users. The Library of Zhejiang University of Technology began to explore the practice of WeChat service in 2013 from the perspectives of team, content and users. The paper sums up the experience from practices, puts forward proposals of improvement in terms of system management, language, layout, messaging time, users’ needs, and the function of the platform.
