Excavation and Utilization of Local Chronicles: Exploration of the Characteristics of Traditional Dietary Culture in Dongguan Villages

Abstract: Food is an important vehicle of cultural heritage and an important practice of shaping socialidentity. The study uses local chronicles as a data source to build a knowledge graph to promoteknowledge discovery. By extracting geographical information cultural customs and other textual datarelated to traditional food from thousands of villages in Dongguan City we built a social network oftraditional food and villages as well as a similarity-based village network to identify the characteristicsand community distribution of traditional food culture in Dongguan villages. The study found that rice andflour products occupy an important position in Dongguan's traditional food with pastry-type foodsexhibiting particularly rich forms. Local dietary practices are closely related to seasonal festivals. Thecultural connotations given to foods and their seasonal attributes affect the selection of traditional foods. Interms of the spatial distribution of traditional food communities two types of communities emerged theCantonese or Hakka traditional food culture aggregation type and the Cantonese-Hakka traditional foodculture fusion type.
