Research on the Metadata Description of Ancient Books in Western Languages: Taking the CADAL Project of Renmin University of China Libraries as an Example

Abstract:

As the carrier of cultural exchange between China and the West, ancient books in westernlanguages boast precious academic research value and cultural relics collection value. In order to providebetter services for the potential users of such books, Renmin University of China Libraries implementeda digitization project under the framework of CADAL resources co-construction and sharing. In thisprocess, a series of problems on metadata description emerged. Combining actual cases, this paper sortsout and analyzes those problems and puts forward some principles for solution.
