Abstract: Neo Confucianism has a profound influence on the development of Chinese traditional culture. Through the analysis of the thoughts of Er Cheng, Zhu Xi, Wang Yinglin, Cheng Duanli and Lu Shiyi, on reading, this paper studies the evolution of Neo Confucianism thoughts on reading, and puts forward some solutions to the current situation and problems of reading promotion of classics. Referring to the purpose of Neo Confucianism reading thought and the significance of Xiao Xue in dealing with five kinds of social relations, this paper holds that in the reading promotion of Chinese traditional culture, Xiao Xue should be used to carry out reading promotion activities among college freshmen to help college students solve the problem of “lacking the basic education of morality and ethics” under the examination oriented education, so as to make them a people with moral cultivation. At the same time, it puts forward the reading promotion bibliography of Neo Confucianism.
