Pre-kindergarten Reading Service Design in American Community Libraries: A Case Study of “1000 Books Before Kindergarten” Program

Abstract: American community libraries play an indispensable role in the daily life of local residents.
Based on authors’ visits to the US, this paper explores the positioning and service characteristics of
American community libraries through the lens of service design. This paper studies the “1000 Books
before Kindergarten” program promoted by the community libraries over the nation, analyzes the
background, service process, and service blueprint of this reading promotion plan. It is aimed to enlighten
the development of community libraries in China
