Abstract: This paper expounds the definition of “deep reading” in the reading promotion research
field under the background of media fusion, suggests to expand the connotation and extension of “deep
reading” and focuses on characteristics in four dimensions, namely, Text Media Dimension, Information
Acquisition Dimension, Cultural Communication Dimension, and Experience Dimension. In the
nationwide reading context, new environment, new media, and new readers call for a new “deep reading”
thinking mode. “Deep reading” should stress on “diversity” and “integration”, using diverse formats,
rich content, mixed situations, pleasure experiences and resonant communication as guidelines to plan
and carry out reading promotion activities. This paper takes “Love Reading, Dreaming Shanghai——
Shanghai-style Culture Reading Promotion” activity as an example to illustrate that “culture reading
promotion” activities with a clear theme and strong regional characteristics are a good practice to promote
“deep reading”, if aiming to guide readers to “deep reading”, fully considering the four dimensions of “deep
reading” in planning, and integrating library media resources in multiple ways step by step. It is worthwhile
for more libraries to try in a way that accommodates their own collection/service or thelocal culture.
