Critical Information Literacy and Education

Abstract: The libraries, as the traditional leading actor in the field of information literacy, are given two ways in face of the challenge of content update and external competition: one is to keep up with the new literacy tendency and the other is to return to the foundation of metaliteracy, the core of which is “critical information literacy”. This paper analyzes the connotation of critical information literacy, studies seven information literacy standards of four professional library organizations, and summaries three major practice models for critical information literary education.
