Abstract:

Our qualitative study in Catalan universities shows that academic researchers now are reading more andmore widely. However, their reading is becoming more superficial. The electronic accessibility of journals means that webbrowsing and table of contents (TOC) e-mail alerts are replacing physical browsing, and web searching is a very popularoption for them to keep up with new developments. Internet search engines, especially Google and Google Scholar, arebecoming important sources of information for researchers. However, academic researchers face problems in managingtheir personal scientific information.
