The Research on the Name of Siam Bay in Zheng He Nautical Chart from the Perspective of Digital Humanities
Li Wenhua, Yuan Bing
Libraly Journal    2021, 40 (8): 88-93.
Abstract373)      PDF(CN) (2065KB)(482)
In the newly discovered centennial old Guihai Nian Gengliubu, the Southeast Asia routes, especially Siam Bay route, are highly consistent with Zheng He’s voyages. Because Zheng He’s nautical chart did not leave the provisions of zhenlu in Siam Bay, it is difficult to verify the place names. Some scholars’ textual research reached the conclusions that the important islands and reefs such as Daheng, Xiaoheng, Bijia, Guishan in the Siam Bay are very different from those in the New Version of Zheng He’s Nautical Atlas. After conducting a digital humanistic textual research on the related zhenlu, it was found that there were unreasonable textual research conclusions in both of them. The author puts forward the corrective opinions on important misinterpretation of the relevant documents, and proposes comprehensive digital humanistic research suggestions on the sea road and compass course of all Chinese dynasties represented by Zheng He’s Nautical Chart.

Semantic Labeling of Advertising Images in Newspapers of the Republic of China Period: Illustrated by Shaoxing Opera Advertisement Published in Xinwen Bao
Yang Jiaying, Xu Xin
Libraly Journal    2021, 40 (3): 96-102.
Abstract363)      PDF(CN) (1764KB)(42)
The rise of the newspaper in the 20th century reflected the prosperity of Shanghai’s commerce and culture where advertisement about cultural activities played an important role. A number of such old materials have been photocopied and published online by Shanghai Library at Cnbksy.com. However, it is often difficult to reveal information content contained in image resources via meta-data descriptions. Further utilization is thus restricted.Shaoxing Opera, the most popular drama in Shanghai, is one of the intangible cultural heritages of China, of which newspaper advertising is too old-fashioned to attract much attention on large-scale social labeling or machine labeling. Inheritance and dissemination are two major needs of intangible cultural heritages, where image plays a key role in reflecting the connotation of resources and satisfying the needs of users. In this paper, newspaper advertisement from 1923 to 1949 of Shaoxing Opera was selected as subjects. It combines the semantic model and the techniques of IIIF to reveal the text information covered by the images more accurately. It is helpful for humanities scholars to make better use of the advertising resources of old newspapers, and is beneficial to the spread of intangible cultural heritages culture.

Digital Humanities: A New Form of Redistribution of Academic Materials
Zhou Jianxin, Tan Fuqiang
Libraly Journal    2021, 40 (2): 104-110.
Abstract208)      PDF(CN) (1851KB)(33)
This paper attempts to understand the redistribution of academic materials by way of digital humanities from the perspective of “private-shared” consumption of academic materials. The study maintains that, first of all, digital humanities produce a response to the inherent contradictions of traditional humanities and scholars, trying to correct the negative externalities of the use of academic materials by technical means without sacrificing the “inherent property rights” of these materials. Secondly, digital humanities are the product of the union and agglomeration between scholars and scholars, between scholars and academia, between academia and technology, and between the rational calculation and value diffusion. It is not a pure academic phenomenon or a pure technical means, but a result from the embedding of academics and technology. Finally, digital humanities are one of the forms in which academic groups reallocate academic materials. After sharing the right to use individual data, it breaks through the marginal growth effect of “private” data consumption and contributes to the diffusion of academic resources, which is consistent with fair distribution. On this basis, digital humanities can be considered as a form of academic information redistribution based on technology and humanities.

As an interdisciplinary subject, Digital Humanities emphasizes the integration and development of computing technology and humanities. Ancient Chinese classics is an important part of the study of humanities. In this context, we use computer technology to extract keywords from the digitized classics of the Spring and Autumn period, so as to analyze the distribution of keywords in the classics of the Spring and Autumn period. In this paper, three keyword extraction algorithms are used, which are based on unsupervised textrank algorithm, traditional TF-IDF algorithm and LDA topic model algorithm. Based on evaluation method of pooling, it is found that textrank algorithm can extract better keywords with an accuracy of 84%. The accuracy of traditional TF-IDF algorithm and LDA topic model algorithm is 62% and 74% respectively. At the same time, according to the keywords drawn out, we can find that the chronicles of the Spring and Autumn period mainly focus on the interrogation, alliance, expedition, marriage and funeral, usurpation and killing among the vassal states. Interpretation of Gu Cheng’s Poetry for Digital Humanities: Based on Word Frequency Analysis
Zhao Xiaoke, Ding Xuhui, Fu Zhu
Libraly Journal    2020, 39 (11): 106-119.
Abstract624)      PDF(CN) (2180KB)(155)
Using bibliometric methods for “quantitative” interpretation and analysis of Chinese modern literary works, the paper provides new paradigms and ideas for digital humanities research. Taking Gu Cheng’s poetry as an example, we revised and expanded Gu’s own phasing of his creation. Then, we statistically analyzed Gu’s poems at different stages combining Gu Cheng’s biography. Finally, we used the word frequency analysis method (WFAM) for Gu’s poems from both an overall perspective and from each phase on Chinese word segmentation of poetry text corpus. The four stages of Gu’s poems creation were expanded into six stages. The quantity changes and the reasons of Gu’s poems creation at each stage were analyzed by using statistical analysis method. The overall theme and style and the evolution at all stages was revealed by using WFAM. The analysis results show that using WFAM could more objectively interpret and analyze the creative theme and style of modern literary works. The results have some due to authors, technology, data, etc.
