Abstract: Using bibliometric methods for “quantitative” interpretation and analysis of Chinese modern literary works, the paper provides new paradigms and ideas for digital humanities research. Taking Gu Cheng’s poetry as an example, we revised and expanded Gu’s own phasing of his creation. Then, we statistically analyzed Gu’s poems at different stages combining Gu Cheng’s biography. Finally, we used the word frequency analysis method (WFAM) for Gu’s poems from both an overall perspective and from each phase on Chinese word segmentation of poetry text corpus. The four stages of Gu’s poems creation were expanded into six stages. The quantity changes and the reasons of Gu’s poems creation at each stage were analyzed by using statistical analysis method. The overall theme and style and the evolution at all stages was revealed by using WFAM. The analysis results show that using WFAM could more objectively interpret and analyze the creative theme and style of modern literary works. The results have some due to authors, technology, data, etc.
