Study and Recommendations on the Construction of Makerspaces in Libraries

Abstract

Abstract: The article introduces the concept and characteristics of the makerspaces, and the significance for the libraries to construct the makerspaces, considering the digital age which the libraries are in, the necessity of transformation and the libraries’ service theory. After reviewing the successful cases of makerspaces in foreign libraries, it summarizes the influential factors, namely, resources and equipments (funds, space, facilities and tools), service team, service design, external environment and cooperation mechanism. Finally, the article proposes specific measures to build makerspace in libraries at home.
