A Framework of Elements for Libraries to Achieve Sustainable Development in the Context of Responsible Innovation

Abstract:

Since the launch of the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, theinternational library community has been calling on the libraries to take actions to contribute to sustainabledevelopment. Responsible innovation may provide a systematic guide for libraries to help them realizethe SDGs and achieve self-innovation. This article examines the interrelationship between libraries,SDGs and responsible innovation at both the theoretical and practical levels. On this basis, the authorsidentify three basic elements of responsible innovation in libraries: ethical normativity, developmentalpermanence, and user participation. The article explores how libraries can accelerate sustainable businesstransformation and service innovation with the help of cases of responsible innovation in libraries.
