Abstract:

The paper analyses the significance and importance of library and information science research,
the problems of library and information studies, the role of knowledge and skills of university librarians,
advantages of college librarians to conduct professional reading and academic research. It concludes
that professional reading and academic research is the inevitable requirement for library to increase core
competitiveness, and is the engine driving university library’s service capacity. The author hopes to draw
libraries and librarians’ attention to professional reading and academic research, so as to help enhance the
service capacity of libraries.
