Abstract:

The mastery of job skills of reading promoters has a decisive influence on the success ofthe reading promotion; thus how to develop their job skills is a topic of interest for both researchers andpractitioners. A mixed method was adopted to address this issue. Firstly, through focus group interviews, six skills of reading promoters were established: familiarity with literature, user research skill, eventmanagement skill, hosting ability, publicity skill, and evaluation skill. Secondly, based on a large samplesurvey, we explored the reading promoters' self-assessment of their mastery of these skills. Specifically, the differences in self-assessments between different groups were compared and the relationship betweenself-assessment and job satisfaction was also investigated. Theoretically, the study adds to the bodyof knowledge on reading promotion, particularly reading promoters. Furthermore, it has a practicalimplication as to how to develop the job skills of reading promoters working in libraries.
