Study on Vitality Index of Scientific and Technological Literature

Abstract

Abstract: The concept and calculation method of literature lasting vitality index (LV-index) are put forward, and a formula for calculating the LV-index of literature is presented with the help of convolutional average. The dynamic evolution of the citations on the time axis is characterized and quantitatively calculated from two dimensions of cited times and time. Document samples are selected from core collection database of Web of Science, with their LV indices computed with MatLab software. The computed result shows that our formula accords with people’s cognition, and the calculation process is simple and efficient. The LV-index focuses on the dynamic evolution of literature citation on the time axis, and is convenient for us to compare the literature on the same topic or subject and to find out the literatures with high academic value.
