Abstract: The basic elements of university library have changed greatly. The Art Library of Harbin Normal University studies the library space planning strategy based on user needs in order to provide support and feasible solutions for the library’s space service innovation. The paper analyzes and proposes the key elements, characteristics and spatial service framework of the new spatial layout. Through the analysis of the orientation, function and characteristics of library space service, it extracts the schemes and strategies that should be adopted in space service. Space service has become an important service mode of library development in future. According to the service object, the principle of space management should be finalized while the new service scheme should fit the space. Also, an effective evaluation system should be established as part of efforts to reconstruct the space service framework based on user needs.
