A Study on User Churn of Rural Public Digital Cultural Services in Eastern China from the Perspective of S-O-R Theory

Abstract: This study investigates the conditions of rural public digital culture services, understands usage intentions, and analyzes the influencing factors of user churn. Field surveys were conducted in rural service stations of National Public Cultural Demonstration Zone. Based on the S-O-R (stimulus-organism- response) theory, grounded theory was used as an analysis method, and a combination of field visits and semi-structured interviews was used to collect corpus. By Nvivo11, the authors combed and analyzed the corpus and identified the influencing factors of user churn and its mechanism. The study discovered the relationship between stimulus, organism, and response elements in rural public digital cultural services, constructed a user churn model, and proposed suggestions targeting at the impact of substitutes, information literacy, information, and service system environment on user churn, in the hope of avoiding user churn and improving the efficiency of rural public digital cultural services.
