Abstract: This paper describes the phenomenon of “fragmented reading”. It then reviews the reading
method called “writing while reading” that the ancient Chinese scholars have pursued. and points out that
the reading view of ancient scholars like Su Shi, Huang Tingjian and Zhu Xi was nothing else but “selected
and intensive reading”. They were all against the “cursory and rough reading“” style. Understanding
and mastering reading methods of scholars of the Song Dynasty may help to relieve the confusion of
contemporary readers in the information wave and knowledge tide, alleviate their reading anxiety, and help
them with a more tailored reading method.
