Abstract: The Historie of the Great and Mightie Kingdome of China was written by Spanish and published first time in 1585 in Rome. This is a national report on providing the strategy of China to the Spanish King in the 16th century in terms of culture, politics, economy and military. At the same time, it is also an encyclopedia that introduced in detail all the situations about China to European scholars and popular readers. In particular, it also detailed the three travels to China by many Spanish missionaries during the Wanli period. All the book shaped the image of China for the Spanish Royal Family and even the entire European society. However, one of the notable problems that exist in the research works consist of the confusion of different editions. Therefore, this work aims to resolve this problem and has finally found that the first edition of the book is the Roman edition of 1585, and the final revision promised by Mendoza is the edition of 1586 published by Querino Gerardo, and the Chinese edition translated by Sun Jiakun is considered as the more faithful to the final revision from the point of view of the origin of the edition and the integrity of the transmission of information. Finally, it is worth to mention that the work is totally based on the firsthand literature from related European libraries.
