The Advocacy and Practice of Specialized Libraries in Modern China

Abstract: The article traces the lack of academic research on specialized Chinese libraries in modern times and inspected the establishment background of the specialized libraries during the period of the Republic of China, characteristics of the library, types of books, professional service and so on.The research objects include: The Library of the Institute of Geological Survey of the Ministry of Agriculture, Shanghai Mingfu Library of China Science Society, the Library of Shanghai Specialized School of the Ministry of Communications, the Education Library of the China Education Improvement Society, the Jiangsu Provincial Library of the Studies of Ancient Chinese Civilization, the Library of the Palace Museum, and Shanghai Hongying Library. With the advocacy of a group of advanced people and the participation of some library scientists, the birth and growth of several well-known specialized libraries have enriched the types of modern Chinese libraries and witnessed the development of the science, education, humanities, engineering and technology of modern China, and even the revival of Chinese traditional culture.
