Research on Acquisition Strategies of Chinese Printed Journals Based on the Data of Patron Usage: A Case Study of East China Normal University Library

Abstract: Patron-driven acquisitions of Chinese printed journals have always been difficult due to the lack of patrons’ demand statistics. The study, taking East China Normal University Library as an example, and constructs a model of Chinese journals acquisition based on the analysis of data collected from journals reading room, as well as data regarding patrons’ demands as reflected in talent shows. It also takes into account the subscriptions data and the list of core journals before working out the acquisition strategy. It is concluded that the acquisition of printed journals should be based on patron use and demands, while taking into account factors such as core journals, electronic version and the nature of subjects.
