New Developments of Literacy Education: From Information Literacy to Multiple Literacy

Abstract: Based on the needs of Library and Information Science (LIS) development and the practical needs of society, this paper points out the necessity of LIS education to transform from information literacy to multiple literacy. It divides the multiple literacy into core literacy and development literacy, systematically explains the definition of multiple literacy, and comprehensively expounds the goal of multiple education in LIS field. Through the analysis of four aspects: social demands, government policy, library construction and practice, this paper identifies the driving factors of multiple literacy education. At the same time, the paper introduces the practices of foreign data literacy, health literacy, environmental literacy and financial literacy education, and then discusses the development of domestic multiple literacy education, in order to optimize the field of LIS personnel training, and achieve the simultaneous development between LIS education and social needs.
