Abstract: The 7th national seminar on fundamental theories of library science was held in Xiangtan University on October 20 to 23, 2017. The meeting agenda included “Opening Ceremony”, “Symposium”, “Closing Ceremony” and “Academic Salon”. The representatives made keynote speeches and held discussions around the theme “the review and exploration of the theoretical issues of modern and contemporary library science”. In the fierce academic debates, idea exchanges and collision, strong contention arose regarding major issues such as “saving time for readers”, “the integration of library and introduction of social forces”, “the civilizing function of library”, “the research content of library science”, and “the relationship between library science theory and practice”.
