Abstract:

Giuseppe Ros, the Italian diplomat in the Republic of China era was famed for his collection, which was very rich but few people have seen. During the years of turmoil, Ros’s collection went through great hardship, and could not be found anymore, becoming an unsolved case. According to the missing course of the collection, the overview and the storing place of the collection at present can be speculated. Ros’s collection falls into five categories. Books collected at the early age were basically written in foreign languages and are now stored in National Library in Beijing. Some Chinese maps are retained in Dalian Library, whereas the old collection in Guangzhou survived fortunately and are now in Guangzhou and Taiwan. A special section of Hainan historical data is kept by Sun Yat-sen Library in Guangzhou. There are still parts of the collection somewhere overseas.
