Abstract: This study focuses on the smart data projects undertaken by UK libraries. By adopting a mixedmethods approach that combines webbased investigation, literature analysis, and email surveys, it systematically reviews the project practices. Following the evolutionary framework of “digitizationdataficationintellectualization”, the identified projects are classified into three categories, with representative cases selected for indepth analysis. The study then summarizes key characteristics observed in the UKs smart data development, including interdisciplinary integration, crosssector collaboration, deep integration of artificial intelligence, and the central role of cultural heritage institutions. Drawing on these findings, the research proposes four referential insights for smart data research and practice in China: expanding the research scope, building collaborative ecosystems, promoting AIenabled technological empowerment, and unlocking the potential of cultural heritage institutions.
