Abstract: As the thirdgeneration proprietor of Wenxueshanfang Bookstore in Suzhou, Jiang Chengbo represents a significant figure in the development and evolution of Chinas antiquarian book trade. This paper reviews Jiang Chengbos career in the antiquarian book industry, analyzing the formation of his “affinity for old books” during his childhood. It examines his management of Wenxueshanfang Bookstore, dividing this period into three phases: initial involvement in bookstore operations, the beginning of his apprenticeship, and his eventual takeover of the bookstores management. It then examines his tenure at the Suzhou antiquarian bookstore, outlining three stages: his early employment at the bookstore, the disruption caused by political upheavals, and his return to professional practice. Finally, it reviews his postretirement dedication and the revival of Wenxueshanfang Bookstore. The paper summarizes his historical and cultural contributions in three key areas: the preservation of rare and valuable editions, with remarkable achievements in book acquisition; the continuation of readeroriented service principles; and the cultivation of industry talent to sustain the legacy of literary culture. By highlighting his professional perseverance and dedication, this study provides a valuable reference for research on the history of Chinas antiquarian book trade.
