Abstract: Based on a review of the current research on the rules and standardized format of Chinese sheet music cataloging, this article points out the specific problems in the current cataloging practice, including the recording of titles, the designation of general material types, the physical description, the recording of uniform titles, and the selection of fields within coded information blocks. Corresponding recommendations are proposed to address these issues. The paper further analyzes the underlying causes for the non-standardized cataloging practices, such as the lack of unified standards, the lack of unified revision by authoritative institutions, and the lack of standard promotion by such institutions. Finally, it looks forward to the future of Chinese sheet music cataloging in the context of rapid development of artificial intelligence.
