Abstract: The local gazetteers, as a unique cultural heritage and precious collection in China, carry the complete cultural context of specific regions, providing new research perspectives and evidence for humanities scholars. With rich and multifaceted characteristics and significant knowledge value, the content of local gazetteers possesses granularity. Hence, on a methodological level, we first propose a multi-granularity knowledge service model based on a dual perspective approach. From the provider’s standpoint, we explore the incremental deconstruction of content according to different granularities. Then from the recipient’s perspective, we investigate how to cater to diverse needs in knowledge services based on content granularities. At the empirical validation level, using the case study of The Impressions of West Lake in the ‘Zhejiang Tong Zhi’, we examine the scientific and practical viability of the proposed model. This examination offers a reference for enhancing the utilization of local gazetteers, understanding regional developmental trajectories, and facilitating the transmission and dissemination of regional culture.
