Abstract:

The Western Chamber printed by Liu Yingxi is the only existing copy in the world, whichis now stored in the East Asia Library of the University of California, Berkeley, USA. Liu’s version isa reworking of Chen Meigong. Lius’ text and comments are based on the Chen Meigong’s version, andmade a proofreading note with reference to the version of YongYutang. Therefore, it can be inferred thatLiu’s version was published later than Chen Meigong’s version, that is, after Wanli 46 (AD 1618). Therelationship of origin of Sun Yuefeng’s version is the same as Liu’s. They are in brotherly relationship, butthe two are not directly related.
