A Brief Account of the Printed Version of the Thread BoundBook “Goryeo Paper” in the Period of the Republic of China

Abstract:

In Qing Dynasty, the source of the Goryeo paper was mainly tribute, trade and reproduction.After 1911, the old Goryeo paper in Qing Dynasty was scattered out, which was available in the market. Atthe same time, people also get Goryeo paper through reprocessing. Due to the high quality of the old Goryeopaper and its ancient meaning, a group of book collectors and publishing institutions represented by ZhouShutao, Fu Zengxiang and the Palace Museum used this paper for printing precious ancient books, paintingsand inscriptions,. It became a unique cultural phenomenon in the printing of ancient books in the period ofthe Republic of China. Through literature review, we can research the thread bound books printed on Goryeopaper in the period of the Republic of China and reflect the characteristics of Goryeo paper in ancient bookprinting. At the same time, it explores the contribution of individuals and publishing institutions to thedissemination of precious ancient books and the mood of “seeking for the old”.
